new heights

Jumper: Asos
Skirt: Matalan
Boots: Asos
Another pair of bargain boots! These beauties were reduced to £18 in the Asos sale and after putting off buying them for ages because I “don’t need any more shoes” apparently a miserable Monday led to a cheeky pick-me-up purchase (it worked!)
This isn’t a very inspired outfit (when are they?) but it was certainly warm and comfortable for a quiet afternoon following my early shift. Sometimes I feel like making an effort and trying new things and other days I feel lazy and insecure and just want something loose.
I’m trying to work a better balance of the two but for now slouchy still wins. Mae approved on the outfit, she spent most of the afternoon comatose on my lap- the jumper resembled a real cat by the time she finally decided to move her bum.
I say this every week but how is it Friday? I can’t say I’m sorry the weeks are speedy past, the sooner we get to Spring the better. Got anything exciting lined up this weekend? I have!

window to the soul

We can change the colour of our hair, nails and clothes as we please so why not our eyes? I’ve written before about my experiments with a new eye colour, opting for a bright green shade
Since then I’ve thought a lot about trialling more colours, there was something quite freeing about being able to change the intensity of my stare and it also had me thinking about whether eye colour affects our personalities in the same way as they say hair colour does.
Do you feel bolder with bright hair? Do you think you’d feel braver if your eyes were lavender instead of baby blue? I’m not 100% convinced, there’s a lot of dubious looking information on the website so as far as I’m concerned there is only one way to find out!

Enter www.getlenses.co.uk and their range of coloured contacts. There is pretty much a colour for every day of the week…
Violet for when you feel like being different, brown, green, hazel, grey, blue and all available in prescription and non prescription varieties. For inexplicable reasons it’s the violet colour that’s calling me…

probably because it’s not a colour found in nature (is it?) and I think it’d look pretty ace with my red hair!

This might seem like a really random post to be writing but I do love the idea of changing my look in a non permanent way. It could also be a pretty good way of testing people’s observation skills…blue eyes one day, brown the next, I’m not entirely convinced my friends and colleagues would notice!

How do you feel about coloured contacts? Do you fancy changing the look of your eyes or do you prefer other ways to liven things up? What’s the most drastic change you’ve ever made to your appearance? Regale me with stories of disaster or massive success below!

the velveteen rabbit

Top: H&M
Skirt: c/o Ax Paris
Tights: Calvin Klein
Boots: Bertie via Tk Maxx
FINALLY I can wear these boots, I still remember the woman asking if I was mad when I bought them before Christmas whilst on crutches. Lady, at the price I paid I would have been mad NOT to buy them, so there! I can’t remember what I paid, actually but it was around £20 instead of over £100 and having lusted after them since Bertie first released them I was, and still am feeling very smug about them.
I’d forgotten about this rabbit top (dress, actually) from H&M which I *had* to have and have worn all of three times. It’s actually a dress but now I’ve gained weight it’s a tad revealing for decency so I whacked it on with this faux leather skater skirt from Ax Paris and called it a top. Genius.
It’s almost the weekend and this week has been a VAST improvement on last week so far. I even had the motivation to do some baking yesterday afternoon which is practically unheard of these days. Gone are the days where I bake all the time, often I think it’s a great idea and then quite frankly, can’t be arsed.
I’m sure there was something else I was going to mention in this post but I cannot for the life of me remember and I need to get a move on and head towards getting ready for work. I’ve earned myself the nickname “super woman” this week, however despite popular suggestion I am not wearing my underwear over my clothes. Sorry.

P.S. thank you for the lovely comments on my bodycon post. You lot are lovely.

Mother’s Day at M&S

I hate to alarm people, but in a few short weeks it will be Mother’s Day (Sunday 10th March if you weren’t aware)
My Mum means the world to me, I undoubtedly wouldn’t still be here without her love and support and although I spoil her rotten as often as I can I still like to indulge her every year.
This year has been a tough one in terms of presents- I think I’ve finally bought her so many little gifts that I’m running out of ideas (actually, I’ve mainly sorted it now, but ssh). If like me you’re struggling then take inspiration from M&S amazing and extensive range of gifts. Below are my top picks but there is so much more to choose from in store and online.

Bio Retinoid Anti-Ageing Concentrate (I’d probably be disowned if I actually bought this for Mum though!) £42 for 30ml

Butterfly Jumbo Mug, £8

Best Mum Mug, £6

Conran Framed Butterfly Print, £39.50

Limited Collection Ditsy Floral Wrap, £19.50

Limited Collection Floral Nightdress, £17.50

Memory Keepsake Box, £7.50

E-Book Case, £7.50

Mother’s Day Spring Posy, £10

Hurrah for Marks and Spencer eh? What’s the best, or oddest thing you’ve ever bought your Mum? If you’re a Mother, what’s the best/oddest thing you’ve ever been given?
Where are you shopping this Mother’s Day?

Dress c/o Ax Paris
Shoes c/o Spy Love Buy
Well, here’s a day I never thought I’d see…me in a bodycon dress. I suppose I cheated slightly as I went up one size so it wasn’t skin tight, but still, this has always been such a fashion “no go area” for me and I’m frankly amazed that I dared wear this.
If it wasn’t for the tie-dye pattern I probably would never have braved this, especially not in a notoriously unflattering midi length but you know what? I survived, I wore it all day and not one person screamed in horror or looked at me in disgust. Quite the opposite happened in fact and wearing something that made me so aware of my shape made me feel confident and secure in the changes that have taken place.
My mission for next month is to buy a bodycon dress in the right size and see what happens. I’ve always spent so much time being paranoid about my hips and thighs that I’ve overlooked the positives the dress highlights.
Sorry for such a “me focused” ramble. I kind of felt I had to document this moment somewhere!
I have to say, Ax Paris is fast becoming one of my favourite places for dresses. Everything I’ve had from there has been fantastic quality and really well priced. There’s been something for all occasions and there are constant new arrivals.
Where is your go-to for fashion forward frocks?
Have you overcome any major barriers lately, clothing or otherwise?
