Bath in Fashion

Photo: Bath in Fashion

On Sunday a group of twelve Bristol/Bath bloggers were invited along to a taster of this year’s Bath in Fashion event. We kickstarted the afternoon with tea and scones at the Fashion Museum (a must see for any fashion fan) before dividing in to two groups for a little taste of what’s in store. Our group went along to pop up beauty shop, a fabulous jewellery shop and Jamie Olivers deli where we got to sample some culinary delights, all the while finding out more about the event and what it can offer.

It was so nice to hang out with some of my favourite people- SJ, Hayley, Grace (also our driver for the day) and Tara and explore a side of Bath I had yet to see. The day ended with coffee and a natter with some of the team and the gorgeous Gina (mastermind behind most Bristol events) at Hall & Woodhouse where we were spoilt with generous goodie bags and much welcomed warmth after the freezing cold and sometimes snowy wandering.

The Bath in Fashion event itself starts on 13th April and runs until the 21st. I’d be here all day trying to run through everything that is going to be happening but you can see a full itinerary on the website and I can tell you now it’s going to be awesome! With a mix of free and paid for events- shopping, talks, food and fun I will be trying to pop along for at least one of the days and I can recommend it to anyone- I’m already urging everyone I work with to attend! I’d also like to say that if you live local and are yet to visit the Fashion Museum (I hadn’t before Sunday) it’s well worth it, there are some gorgeous dresses spanning hundreds of years and a fun little dress up station where Hayley and I had fun with hats.

To be quite honest this is a piss poor attempt at trying to explain just how fabulous this is going to be and really it’s a ruse to get you along there for yourselves!

A big shout out to little lab for the talk, demo and goodies (and for being downright gorgeous) and to Magpie and Bear for making me want to spend my wages before I’ve earnt them and for having the cutest dog ever (I’ll be back, several times!)

Have you been to Bath in Fashion before? Are you going this year? The answer really should be yes.

a question of sport

Vest and Trackpants: c/o Pineapple
Shoes: Converse
Exercise and I have always had a rocky relationship, swinging from one extreme to the other. At the moment it has been a long time since I did any form of any exercise bar every day walking and I’ve been thinking for some time that things need to change. When Pineapple kindly offered me an outfit for review purposes it seemed the perfect chance to get myself moving and after care consultation with a physio or two a plan was hatched.
Gone are the days where I can simply pop out for a jog, I have something called osteopenia, the precursor to osteoperosis and a long term legacy of my fight with anorexia. This means my bones aren’t as strong as they should be and high impact exercise is a no-go. This was gutting as it means a lot of my old favourite ways of keeping fit have been ruled out but that’s no excuse. I have a bike. I have an air walker installed in the garage, there’s yoga and pilates and a whole host of other ways to get moving that just mean thinking outside the box. I also have to be careful because of my foot, pace myself and not do too much at once, but I’m up for a challenge.
This year is to be about building physical strength as well as body confidence and I’m really excited to get going again. This outfit from Pineapple is perfect. I’m fussy about sportswear, it has to feel “right” and this does. The trousers especially are perfect, the length is just right and the material is comfortable and fitted without being skin tight. Size wise I went for a medium which is a UK 10/12 and this seems perfect, if anything a little on the small side so bear that in mind if making a purchase. The top doesn’t feel constrictingly clingy but has support in the right places and doesn’t ride up when I move. I think I’ve found my perfect work out brand and I’ll be sticking with it.
Are you a fan of exercise? What low impact activities would you suggest? What sportswear brand do you favour?

two for one

 Top: Mango
Skirt (River Island) and Boots: ASOS sale

Dress: Oliver Bonas
Lace top: C&A in Holland
Boots: Yull
Yep, a double whammy outfit post purely because the first outfit I just couldn’t get more than one photo of…why is all black so hard to capture? I loved this witchy get-up which I wore to meet Becca and Ellie for lunch and shopping on Saturday. I’ve been after a skirt like this for ages so when this River Island one cropped up in the ASOS sale it was a no brainer purchase. The top from Mango has gold studded sleeves that you can’t see. They only had an XL in stock on the website but I was so in love with it and it’s bargain price that I decided to order it and wear it baggy. Mango sizing is generally really small anyway so it’s not like I’m swimming in a massive tent!
The second outfit was what I wore Sunday for a wonderful but freezing trip to Bath for a preview of an amazing event happening soon called Bath in Fashion. There will be a full post dedicated to this so I won’t harp on now. Instead I’ll talk about how much I love this dress and how much wear I’ll be getting out of it. The print reminds me of both brocade and oriental and although it’s probably a bit tooo smart for daytime wearing I don’t care, it deserves to be shown off!
Operation hat this weekend was a total success by the way. Good old H&M never fails me. Behold the £7.99 wonder! I need far more hats in my life.
Well, Monday duties call, I need to get myself in to something warm for a chilly walk down to see my (wonderful) GP about coming off of the pregabalin for my foot. It has worked wonders for the neuropathic pain but I don’t like the side effects so I want to see if I can cope without it. I then have a two hour defib and cpr training to attend before my normal afternoon shift at work. Aye aye aye. I thought I didn’t have any more training to do until next year but now I’m a “clinical” person I have to do it more frequently. These things are always useful though and training is generally a laugh.

Have a good start to the week!

Sarenza Sunday- Sole Society

I’ve lost count of how many new brands Sarenza has introduced me to since I started working with them, my weekend browsing has led me to yet another new discovery- Sole Society who’s simple, clean cut designs need to be gracing my feet come summer.

The Sammy Sandal, £63 is the perfect way to adopt the neon trend if you’re not ready for the full on glow. I’m already thinking ahead to my Spanish getaway and how amazing they’ll look against tanned feet (not mine then!)
On the other end of the colour spectrum and embracing yet another hot trend- this time metallic, I bring you the Erika Sandal, £63 which is probably going to look more flattering against my skin and it’s refusal to turn anything more than every so slightly less pale than usual…(Ellie, a pair each yes?!)
And of course, it goes without saying that I’d love the bold and bright Chrissy Heel, £105.70 with it’s nod to the aztec trend with a splash on neon. In the past I would have HATED this shoe and I’m thinking that perhaps this is exactly why I’m loving it so much now.

Have you discovered any fabulous new brands lately? Share the love below…
Which pair of these beauties suits you best?

Dress: New Look
Shoes: c/o Barratts
Oh, I give up with ever getting a decent photograph. It’s the one thing that really fuels my insecurity as a blogger as other people’s are always so clear and consice and mine are distinctly, well, not.
Anyway,
deal with it I guess because it’s not going to change any time soon. Not until I’m able to charm someone in to being a personal photographer and find romantic, whimsical settings for every outfit.
This dress is a recent purchase. I have quite a few black and white dresses but couldn’t resist yet another especially when it only costs £16.99 …good old New Look, the only clothes shop in town (I wish I were kidding) and it never fails me.
I thought I’d liven it up a bit with these pink boots from Barratts who got their first official outing on Thursday. They got a lot of attention and admiration at work from colleagues who find my shoe collection something of a marvel/standing joke.
WEEKEND. I’ve just woken up from a good sleep (I like, it’s not yet 7am and I’ve been awake well over an hour, curse my early bird nature) and today I’m seeing Ellie and Becca (hello!) for lunch, shopping and a shamefully long overdue catch up with Becca. I’m on a one woman mission for a bowler hat…I’m thinking H&M might be a good bet?

What are you up to today? Tomorrow is also an exciting one, to be spent with some of my very favourite blogging ladies, hurrah!

Right, time for some coffee I think…
