Customising Your Home: Interior Design Ideas

Recently I posted some of my interior ambitions sharing my favourite decorative pieces from Fabrics & Papers. Well, from decoration to statement furniture, I bring you some great websites that offer the ability to customize the look and feel of your furniture.
There are two things I love about this website. The fact that the furniture is not mass produced and the three step process allowing you to select your shape, size and fabric. The most important thing to me, when I finally get to have my own place, is to be unique. At least this way, the likelihood of someone having the exactly same sofa as me is lessened. They have a huge range of contemporary sofas, here are a couple of my favourites:

It may not be practical but this red small sofa makes a statement and is perfect for an office waiting room or an additional seating for guests in your living room. Love it!

The combination of pinks and purples are just divine on this blocked corner sofa. I guess by being given the option to select your own fabric you really can be as unique as you like! Part of me just wants to play giant Tetris with this one. That should keep my friends entertained when they come over.
2. Knesting – Re-covering Ikea Furniture
If you haven’t got the budget to buy new furniture and feel a little bored with your old Ikea furniture, then Knesting could have the answer. They specialise in fabric covers for Ikea furniture specifically and can turn this Klippan sofa…

Into this designer looking sofa…

Pretty cool right? I know which one I prefer!

3. Interior Design Online – Make Room Plans!
For anyone with a little money to throw at their interior design project, this could be the solution for you. This is also great for any ‘Monica’s’ out there that really like to plan everything out. Basically you can create your own interior design room plan and include elevation drawings like this one:

It’s almost like playing SIMS with your own home. Can you imagine being able to play with ideas and switch and change them until you find the perfect look for your home? Well now you don’t have to, you can make it a reality with the help of these guys.
4. Make Your Rooms Energy Efficient

Another way to update your room is by updating your windows! You would be surprised at how much warmth you can lose via old windows, so if swapping for UPVC Windows, then you may even find your heating bills reduced and who doesn’t love a bright, white window to make a room feel new and fresh.

What do You Think?
Whatever you decide to do I hope I helped inspire you a little. I would love to hear from anyone who has recently decorated their home using customised techniques like these. My chance to redesign my home may be a way off yet but a girl can dream!

Get to Know your Body Shape; a guest post.

There are many rules in fashion, and trying to keep up with all the dos and don’ts and latest trends can get a bit much. If you want to look great without having to ingest six different fashion magazines each week then the main thing is to simply dress for the body you have, rather than the body you wish you had. Women come in all shapes and sizes, and in reality the key to looking fabulous is to love the figure you’ve been given and really get to know it so you can dress it in beautiful flattering clothes.

Identify your shape
The first step to dressing for your body type is to identify what this means for you. Popular opinion would dictate that there are only a few different categories for shape, but real women cannot be put into boxes quite so simply, and every single woman has a different shape. Think about whether you are loosely a pear, apple, hourglass or athletic shape, but don’t expect to conform entirely to this categorisation. There are plenty of women that are a combination of two or more of these, and there are likely some parts of your body that don’t follow the rules of your shape. Once you have worked this out you can experiment with outfits that are designed to flatter your outline, and decide which work for you.

Find your best bits
It’s very easy to stand in front of a mirror and criticise the parts of your body that you don’t like. In fact, this is something that most women are guilty of, and it can give you a very negative body image and perception of what you look like. Once a day try and give yourself a compliment. Instead of finding fault, identify a part of your body that you like and don’t mind showing off. When you are shopping try and find outfits that will really flatter the bits of yourself that you love, then you can ensure attention is on these and not on the parts you feel more self conscious about.

Things everyone can do
You can easily find information about what styles are likely to suit you based on your proportions. Experiment with different cuts and combinations to find what looks best on you. There are however some more generic things you can do to ensure you look your best in whatever you wear. These include getting a well cut items of clothing and nice fabrics that hang well. You don’t need to go designer to get this level of quality and there are some quality dresses from George that really take into account women’s figures. Where possible too you should try to elongate your legs. It doesn’t matter whether you’re 4ft or 6ft tall, this simple trick will make you look slimmer and more elegant.

Getting to know your body really well will help you to know which clothes and outfits will look best on you and help you to feel confident at all times. Don’t be afraid to experiment and work out what you like and what looks best. Follow some of the guidelines about body shape but remember this will vary from person to person so you will need to test the theories for yourself.

Public Service Announcement- Mental Health is not a Joke

I’m not entirely sure what was going through the mind of Urban Outfitters when they decided to stock these two t-shirts, and I know the second one is old news now but it’s making my blood boil.
Not only have I suffered from anorexia and depression for almost half my life I have also lost friends to both diseases and it’s no joke.
Nor is it a fashion statement.
I know these were probably intended in a light-hearted manner, but that in itself makes me rage. Nothing about mental health problems is a joke. Live one day in the life of a sufferer and THEN tell me these are a good idea.
I’m so angry right now that I can’t even type this properly. I just know that from now on I won’t  be supporting Urban Outfitters and it’s renewed my desire to raise awareness of mental health problems during the rest of my life.

Celebrities Embrace Eternity Wedding Rings (guest post)

A guest post by Guest Post by Nathalie Martin, Twitter @MartinNathalie9
Ladies in the spotlight have always been known for flashing a huge diamond engagement ring but now the wedding ring is sharing the limelight. There has been a rush of popularity among celebrities
for diamond eternity wedding rings mostly set in platinum or white gold. Here are some of the top
famous ladies spotted with diamond wedding rings.

Eva Longoria, Kim Kardashian, Anna Kournikova and Jessica Simpson all opted for a full set cluster of diamonds for their wedding ring. I found a very similar wedding ring to Kim and Anna available online for the bargain price of $5,000 dollars!
It seems the bling of their huge diamond engagement rings is not enough for these celebrities and online jewellery shops are catching on by offering low cost diamond wedding rings. You can also save even more money by switching to the precious metal palladium, which comes from the same family as platinum. This is good news for any ladies currently sighing in distant admiration, it means that there are now plenty of affordable platinum wedding rings and palladium diamond wedding rings to choose from.
I found my wedding ring online from the Orla James Collection recently and would definitely recommend them. I loved the fact that I was able to order a sample box first to try on my favourites. Here are some of their diamond-set and eternity diamond wedding rings available from just £413 including the brilliant baguette diamond ring (far left) that I now wear with pride.

I hope my article helped assure you that your dream diamond wedding ring is within your grasp. Diamonds are forever so why not include them in your wedding band and enjoy their beauty with your marriage for a lifetime?
