Get up and Go

My first personal-ish post on the new look site, I can’t believe it’s taken me just over a week to get a chance to do this but I suppose I can be excused just this once. Thank you for the amazing feedback on the blog’s makeover, I’m really lucky that my boyfriend was prepared to teach himself all the required code and skills to do this for me, I picked a good ‘un eh? If you have any feedback on the site or any questions you can find all my contact details in the handy “contact” tab.
Knowing I was having back surgery soon I collected a few outfit shots beforehand so my blog didn’t become one long wishlist. The first of these, below features dire photography. That’s my number one goal for my new site, improve my photography! That and keep blogging about the things I love, even if it is just a lot of posts about fabulous brands and lookbooks. Don’t like it? Don’t read it. Simples!
Cardigan: New Look | Dress: Primark | Tights: New Look | Boots: c/o Sarenza
I bought this dress by accident. I had popped in to Primark on my way home from Ben’s as I had time to kill between buses. My intention was to get a pack of black tights and leave but I got distracted by a rail of £5 dresses and ended up with this one, and a week later a blue one. Oops. The cardigan was another bargain costing £10 in the New Look sale. I was looking for a replacement for my black one but the deep bottle green of this became more tempting and actually, it’s better quality than the similar black one I own and goes with just as many of my clothes. The boots are no more after I had an accident involving a kerb and the sole, I’m a bit gutted as they went with everything and were SO comfortable. Still, it’s an excuse to buy a replacement next winter (still working on being on a shopping ban right now due to very little money coming my way).
As most of you know, I had surgery on my back last week. I’m now 6 days post-op and feeling pretty ok. I’m in some pain still but it’s much easier to tolerate than the pain I had before the procedure. I still can’t do much. I’m not allowed to sit for too long, or lift a kettle (or anything really) and can only go for short walks at the moment. I’m a bit bored but twitter and a bunch of crafts are keeping me going stir crazy and I’ve had plenty of visitors and gorgeous parcels in the post which have kept me smiling. I’ve read a book and a half so far and I’m working on eating my way back to normal. I’m really hopeful that by the time I go back to work on March 18th I’ll be pain free and ready to make the very best of life, I’m so excited to be in a position to start exercising…bring on a healthy, toned and fit body and a much healthier lifestyle.
Have you got any tips to keep me occupied? How about a blogger meetup on my bed? I’ll provide tea and a cat.

DestinationSkin [Bristol]

I’ve generally been really lucky with my skin. Throughout my teenage years I had nothing more than the odd spot and these days one only really crops up when my hormones are running awry. This has made me exceptionally lazy and I have no real skin care regime, just soap and water and a bit of moisturiser when I remember. Clear skin aside, I do have a few niggles- my face gets very tight and sore from dryness especially at this time of year to the point where under my eyes gets tender. My skin is also quite sensitive which makes me reluctant to try new products.
Recently I was invited along to DestinationSkin in Bristol, a place I must have walked past countless times without really noticing- I had always assumed it wasn’t for me.
DestinationSkin is more of a skin clinic than a beauty parlour. Facials are on prescription and treatments such as IPL hair removal and botox are available. I was booked in for a prescription facial and was intrigued as to what the clinician would make of my skin.
The place itself was lovely. I was a bit apprehensive about how relaxing it would be due to the clinic being smack bang in the middle of The Galleries shopping centre. Although not as busy as Cabot Circus it still gets it’s fair share of foot traffic on a Saturday morning which is when I was booked in for.
I needn’t have worried, as soon as I stepped foot inside to be greeted by the super friendly girls on the desk I felt relaxed. I was shown to the chic waiting area, which is behind a frosted glass wall for privacy. There was a selection of local magazines as well as all the information you could possibly want about the company and what they do. I was given a lenghty piece of paperwork to fill out which included my personal details, past medical history and what medications I take…this is to ensure that none of the treatments given can do you any harm and I felt reassured by the thorough nature of this.
Once I had done all the paperwork the lovely lady who was going to do my treatment came out to introduce herself. She was so bubbly and friendly right from the start which put me right at ease. She also had the most flawless skin imaginable and I found myself hoping I’d leave looking even half as good as she did. She took my through to one of several treatment rooms towards the back of the clinic. This ensured that despite the busy shopping centre all you could hear was the relaxing music being played. The clinic room was spotlessly clean and tidy- just as the reception area had been. Despite being more on the medical side this place had the feel  of a luxury salon too.
The first thing Bonsyia my consultant did was go through all of the paperwork I had filled in. Once she was satisfied I was fit for treatment she laid me back on the couch and cleansed and exfoliated my skin. She then gave it an examination to determine my skin type and what facial she should prescribe. The next step was sticking my head in a box. Somewhat unconventional I’m sure, but this box was a UV light to assess skin for sun damage and other trouble spots. Thankfully I had little sun damage, I had been concerned about this being so pale and I’ve sworn to be better with the sun protection. The light also showed up a couple of oily patches on my otherwise very dehydrated skin and a heck of a lot of freckles!
I was prescribed the DermaQuest Signature Stem Cell Facial which sounded more like it belonged in a laboratory than on my face! My skin was once again cleansed and then the first of two face masks was applied and my face was massaged to encourage the active ingredients to work. It was quite an odd sensation and I was a bit nervous about what the ingredients were doing to me, but with ingredients like fruit acids I knew that although they sounded scary they wouldn’t do much harm! After the first mask was removed and my skin cleansed again the second mask was applied. This one smelt heavenly but it made my face tingle a lot! It got to the point of quite uncomfortable and I was worried I was having some kind of reaction but apparently this is a normal sensation and once the mask was removed and my skin cleansed again (I swear my skin had never felt so clean!) the sensation faded and was gone completely a couple of hours later. A host of products were applied to finish the look- a daily enzyme cleanser, a B5 serum and a SPF to name a few (let me know if you want exact names and details). The products are all available to purchase but as tempted as I was I just couldn’t afford them.
I was so impressed with the effects of this facial. Almost a week on and my skin looks great. Due to the active ingredients the treatment continues to work for a few days and despite a general anaesthetic and a lack of daylight my skin is still glowing and soft.
At £50 this isn’t something I’d do on a regular basis but I will go back once or twice a year to get my skin in tip-top condition. I’d highly recommend DestinationSkin to anyone with skin woes, y0u can go along for a free, no obligation consultation to get an idea of what they can do for you and there are often special deals and payment plans available.
A huge thank you to the lovely ladies working last Saturday for making me feel so welcome and for giving me the confidence to walk through central Bristol bare faced for the first time ever.
post facial bare face.
Have you ever had a prescription facial? I’d love to know your thoughts.

Pastel Perfection from Yull Shoes

Just how gorgeous are these beauties from the Spring/Summer collection by Yull Shoes? I’ve been a champion for the brand since forever and Sarah’s creations just get better and better. These pastel stunners have well and truly captured my heart, so much so I couldn’t resist pinching this image from the brand’s facebook page (sorry Sarah!)
If it’s classic simplcity you’re after there is also plenty of that in the new collection in a variety of heel heights and stunning colours. Yull is THE British shoe brand for me, nothing I’ve owned from there has let me down and the brand goes from strength to strength each season. If it carries on like this I’ll be needing new bedroom storage, something like this that I found on my endless browsing should do the trick nicely.
Have you checked out Yull shoes yet? If you haven’t then you really should, I can heartily recommend the Chelsea Boots and Cambridge Flats for starters…

Customising Your Home: Interior Design Ideas

Recently I posted some of my interior ambitions sharing my favourite decorative pieces from Fabrics & Papers. Well, from decoration to statement furniture, I bring you some great websites that offer the ability to customize the look and feel of your furniture.
There are two things I love about this website. The fact that the furniture is not mass produced and the three step process allowing you to select your shape, size and fabric. The most important thing to me, when I finally get to have my own place, is to be unique. At least this way, the likelihood of someone having the exactly same sofa as me is lessened. They have a huge range of contemporary sofas, here are a couple of my favourites:

It may not be practical but this red small sofa makes a statement and is perfect for an office waiting room or an additional seating for guests in your living room. Love it!

The combination of pinks and purples are just divine on this blocked corner sofa. I guess by being given the option to select your own fabric you really can be as unique as you like! Part of me just wants to play giant Tetris with this one. That should keep my friends entertained when they come over.
2. Knesting – Re-covering Ikea Furniture
If you haven’t got the budget to buy new furniture and feel a little bored with your old Ikea furniture, then Knesting could have the answer. They specialise in fabric covers for Ikea furniture specifically and can turn this Klippan sofa…

Into this designer looking sofa…

Pretty cool right? I know which one I prefer!

3. Interior Design Online – Make Room Plans!
For anyone with a little money to throw at their interior design project, this could be the solution for you. This is also great for any ‘Monica’s’ out there that really like to plan everything out. Basically you can create your own interior design room plan and include elevation drawings like this one:

It’s almost like playing SIMS with your own home. Can you imagine being able to play with ideas and switch and change them until you find the perfect look for your home? Well now you don’t have to, you can make it a reality with the help of these guys.
4. Make Your Rooms Energy Efficient

Another way to update your room is by updating your windows! You would be surprised at how much warmth you can lose via old windows, so if swapping for UPVC Windows, then you may even find your heating bills reduced and who doesn’t love a bright, white window to make a room feel new and fresh.

What do You Think?
Whatever you decide to do I hope I helped inspire you a little. I would love to hear from anyone who has recently decorated their home using customised techniques like these. My chance to redesign my home may be a way off yet but a girl can dream!

Hello Valentine: Rose Gold with Guess

Well, it wouldn’t be a series of gift guides without an appearance from GUESS now would it? When I was sent over some images of their latest and greatest I was instantly drawn to the gorgeous selection of Rose Gold pieces- Roses don’t last forever, delicate pinky gold jewellery does (and probably, given inflation at this time of year doesn’t cost any more than roses, either!)
I’ve put price details on the pictures, just hover over them to reveal. My eye is on the bow necklace at £45, that or the pink bracelet box set at £50.
Which would you prefer? A dozen roses or something more sparkly to last a heck of a lot longer? I’ve got quite a collection of Guess jewellery now and as much as I love fresh flowers I know which I’d prefer!
