thinking warm thoughts

With grey skies and snow falling it seems an odd time to be thinking about what we’ll be wearing in Spring and Summer. Fashion works like that though, always a season ahead and it can be quite hard to get your head round (if your me, at least!)

Still, when the S/S13 Apricot look book dropped through my door I couldn’t help but take a look and start mentally compiling a wish list for when the temperature finally rises in to double figures. Embracing trends from Sixties Monochrome through to “Soft Grunge” and the ever present florals (oh, and a few other key styles too) here are my top picks:

I’ve never much been a fan of predominantly white clothing, I’m just too messy but the cut and style of this dress has won me over.

I love how the cut out detail has transformed this little black dress in to something a bit more unusual for day or night.

Get your layering right and you could wear this little number right now. A very fine knit long sleeve underneath or statement jacket over the top + thick tights and boots and you’re good to go.

Likewise with this dress, the darker colour scheme makes this a potential trans-seasonal piece making it double the bargain at only £30

The print on this makes me think of sunny summer holidays which is reason enough to buy it surely?

Ok so looking through these aren’t the most summery of Apricot‘s new arrivals but I like them anyway. I think any of them could be bought now and worn right through until A/W drops (and beyond) which makes them excellent value for money. Nothing I’ve featured costs over £40 (the jacket is the most expensive at £39) so what are you waiting for? Banish those winter blues and SHOP…if it isn’t payday just yet it soon will be!

Have you started thinking about what you’ll be wearing come Spring yet?

Georgia Black Eyelash Lace Open Back Dress: £45

Alysha Black PU Straps Sweetheart Skater Dress: £45

Rita Black Crinkle Foil Cold Shoulder Dress: £39

Layla Black Embellished Neckline Racer Back Skater Dress: £39

I appear to suffer from a style split personality- one day I’m all over floral and pastels, the next I’m craving an all black ensemble with straight cut lines. Today is one of the latter days and the cause of my desire is the new arrivals over at Oh My Love (who also have some rather fabulous and colourful pieces too). Topping my “I need it” list is the Rita dress- it’s black but not boring and at £39 I am sorely tempted to ignore the angel on my shoulder telling me to wait until payday and go ahead and buy it.

I’ve never shopped at Oh My Love before so I can’t vouch for the sizes or customer service; I’d be interested in hearing what you think. What I can tell you is that they are one to watch, there are some seriously stylish dresses to browse through alongside gorgeous blouses and perfect for this weather fluffy knits. I’m wishing I was back in my student days as I’d be able to bag a cool 20% discount (now I feel old, my student days are long gone…)

What’s on your wish list this week?

daisy chain dreaming; dresses at jigsaw

The new year has seen me vow to browse in less obvious places, there is nothing wrong with the high street old faithfuls but the time has come to broaden my sartorial horizons and pursue pastures new. My first wish list of 2013 comes via Jigsaw and their gorgeous array of dresses; they may not be Primark prices but you’ll soon see why I love them so.

I figured I’d start with a show stopper, at £325 this is way out of my budget but I LOVE all things flapper and this dress makes a statement and a half. Swoon.

I don’t think I’ll ever lose my love of florals, even when they cost £99 (in the sale)

I vote sequins are for life, not just for Christmas. I’d love to try wearing this to work!

This lace jersey dress costs £129 but looks like the perfect versatile piece…suitable for work and play it’ll soon earn it’s keep.

I think this might be my absolute favourite. Simple, clean cut and chic- everything I wish I was.

I think I’ll be keeping a closer eye on jigsaw, especially the dresses. I kind of feel like I’ve grown up a lot in the last year and I want my wardrobe to reflect that. Are you finding the same as you get older? Of course there will ALWAYS be space in my life for novelty knits and a rainbow of tights but a few investment pieces here and there wouldn’t hurt.

What are your style resolutions and where will you be browsing this year?

Daisy Chain Dreaming: House of Harlow 1960

I’m quite glad that the latest launch from House of Harlow 1960 won’t be hitting the shops until January, there is just too much I want and I need to save! Top of my list wishlist is that fabulous Aztec Bangle, set to retail around the £50 mark. I would say no to the Pearl Talon ring either…nor the engraved Triangle necklace and earrings…

oh who am I trying to kid? I need a lottery win and the entire collection.

Sunday, I’m in Love

Gina Velvet Bodycon Dress

Black Glitter Litas

Stardust Knicker Playsuit

Star Wet Look Skinny Pant

It’s been a while since I took a proper look at the Motel website- I think I’m slightly bitter about growing out of my Jordan jeans. Lately it’s been impossible to ignore though, the latest collection has excelled itself and I’m finding myself crushing on things that are so far out of my comfort zone they may as well be in another country.
Top of my list are the Star Wet Look Skinny Pants in Emerald Green; at £20 I might just have to be brave and branch out.

Have you checked out Motel lately? What’s caught your eye?
