11/11 Lest we Forget

Today we remember all the soliders since WW1 who gave their lives to serve our country.

I’m a big fan of poetry, especially war poetry.

Wilfred Owen wrote one of my favourites,

Dulce Et Decorum Est

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.

Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!—An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling,
And flound’ring like a man in fire or lime…
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,—
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

I find the imagery this evokes utterly incredible.

Lest we forget…

REMINDER

Guys,
just a super quick post to remind you that Vero Moda open the doors to their Oxford Street flagship store TOMORROW at 10am.

Get to 179 Oxford Street early for your chance to win fabulous prizes; a free outfit for the first 100 there!

…and don’t forget to take plenty of pictures for little old me to turn green with envy over.

I’ll just put on my sexy black dress and pretend that I’m there with you.

Have Fun!

Technical Hiccup

Happy Saturday all,
this is just a quick post to say I have suffered epic.laptop.fail and will be without my trusty steed until Wednesday at least. I am currently using my Dad’s old Dell, which dates back to approx 1820 and cannot cope with many photos or google reader so I shall likely be absent from blogging until then.

Butttt, I promise wonderful things
(err, okay standard outfit photos and a few exciting things) upon my return.

Enjoy your weekend! I’m meeting up with my Bestie from the hospital today for some retail therapy (a.k.a. window shopping).
