treasure hunt

Auctions have always fascinated me, the closest I’ve got so far however is ebay which I don’t think really counts!
Enter brand new website and concept Barnebys.co.uk where users can search over 10,000 ongoing auctions from some of the best auction houses in the UK.
Looking for the perfect piece of vintage furniture or something quirky for a unique gift? Just type in what it is your looking for and Barnebys will do the hard work for you.
Barnebys was first launched in Sweden in 2011 and finding great success there went on to launch across all the Scandinavian countries before launching just now in the UK. 
Properly intrigued by this I had a browse for some vintage costume jewellery and the results were impressive! You can make your search more specific, narrowing it down to certain regions and auction houses and it’s good fun to look through what comes up. I’m yet to make a purchase but to me Barnebys.co.uk is a valuable addition to my online browsing repertoire and an excellent away to while away some hours. I’ll keep you updated if I do make any purchases…this really is the ultimate treasure hunt!

Bath in Fashion

On Sunday a group of twelve Bristol/Bath bloggers were invited along to a taster of this year’s Bath in Fashion event. We kickstarted the afternoon with tea and scones at the Fashion Museum (a must see for any fashion fan) before dividing in to two groups for a little taste of what’s in store. Our group went along to pop up beauty shop, a fabulous jewellery shop and Jamie Olivers deli where we got to sample some culinary delights, all the while finding out more about the event and what it can offer.

It was so nice to hang out with some of my favourite people- SJ, Hayley, Grace (also our driver for the day) and Tara and explore a side of Bath I had yet to see. The day ended with coffee and a natter with some of the team and the gorgeous Gina (mastermind behind most Bristol events) at Hall & Woodhouse where we were spoilt with generous goodie bags and much welcomed warmth after the freezing cold and sometimes snowy wandering.

The Bath in Fashion event itself starts on 13th April and runs until the 21st. I’d be here all day trying to run through everything that is going to be happening but you can see a full itinerary on the website and I can tell you now it’s going to be awesome! With a mix of free and paid for events- shopping, talks, food and fun I will be trying to pop along for at least one of the days and I can recommend it to anyone- I’m already urging everyone I work with to attend! I’d also like to say that if you live local and are yet to visit the Fashion Museum (I hadn’t before Sunday) it’s well worth it, there are some gorgeous dresses spanning hundreds of years and a fun little dress up station where Hayley and I had fun with hats.

To be quite honest this is a piss poor attempt at trying to explain just how fabulous this is going to be and really it’s a ruse to get you along there for yourselves!

A big shout out to little lab for the talk, demo and goodies (and for being downright gorgeous) and to Magpie and Bear for making me want to spend my wages before I’ve earnt them and for having the cutest dog ever (I’ll be back, several times!)

window to the soul

We can change the colour of our hair, nails and clothes as we please so why not our eyes? I’ve written before about my experiments with a new eye colour, opting for a bright green shade
Since then I’ve thought a lot about trialling more colours, there was something quite freeing about being able to change the intensity of my stare and it also had me thinking about whether eye colour affects our personalities in the same way as they say hair colour does.
Do you feel bolder with bright hair? Do you think you’d feel braver if your eyes were lavender instead of baby blue? I’m not 100% convinced, there’s a lot of dubious looking information on the website so as far as I’m concerned there is only one way to find out!

Violet for when you feel like being different, brown, green, hazel, grey, blue and all available in prescription and non prescription varieties. For inexplicable reasons it’s the violet colour that’s calling me…

probably because it’s not a colour found in nature (is it?) and I think it’d look pretty ace with my red hair!

This might seem like a really random post to be writing but I do love the idea of changing my look in a non permanent way. It could also be a pretty good way of testing people’s observation skills…blue eyes one day, brown the next, I’m not entirely convinced my friends and colleagues would notice!
