Dungarees Revisited

If there’s one item of clothing I never thought I’d become a big fan of then it’s dungarees. Up until a couple of years ago I thought I’d left them firmly in my childhood days but as they began to reappear on the catwalks and the high street I found myself oddly enchanted by them and have added a few pairs to my wardrobe, including these new additions that came to me via fashion e-tailer Wearall.

I haven’t owned any black denim for a very long time and it wasn’t until these arrived that I realised how much I had missed it. I really like these skinny fit dungarees, they have a slightly cropped length so they show off my new holographic pale pink Converse (a birthday present) to perfection and wearing this I felt a little less dressed down than I do in blue denim. A casual take on monochrome makes for my ultimate chill out outfit, and I have an awful lot of chilling out time on my hands at the moment.
I’ve had previous experience with Wearall and was impressed then and I’m even more impressed now. It took a bit of sifting to find things that fitted in with my personal style but bother the dungarees and another item I have sent are of excellent quality and the fits are perfect.
Are there any trends that you never thought you’d revisit? I’m just hoping shell suits don’t make a comeback as knowing me, I could be tempted…

A Summer Shoe Wish list*

I’ve been so good on not accumulating more shoes over the last six months or so but with a birthday just a couple of days ago, a few little shopping trips and a whole load of online browsing (where two new pairs might have made their way to me!) I’m all about the summer sandals at the moment and thought I’d pop together a little wish list of some of my favourites.
Flat sandals are my real weakness, or something with a low heel at most- as gorgeous as a pair of skyscraper heels are I just can’t walk in them and don’t get the cost-per-wear from them.

The first three pairs are by Clarks and are available at Brantano, I will never not love Clarks for a sensible sandal (and please do remember sensible doesn’t mean boring!) The animal print pair are definitely calling out to me with their super on trend lace up details and go-with-anything pattern.

The last three pairs are from ASOS, forever a go-to shop when I want to indulge my need for a virtual window shop. At the moment I’m really craving the ultimate pair of loafer style shoes and my inner magpie is telling me I need the silver pair in my life. I probably don’t, but with some birthday money left begging to be spent I’m not sure whether head or heart is going to win!

What’s your staple Summer shoe style?

If the Shoe Fits with Long Tall Sally

It’s probably hard to believe now but when I was much younger I dreaded buying shoes. As a tall kid with large (not to mention wide) feet the only styles available to me were incredibly clumpy and supremely unflattering. These days it’s much easier to find pretty shoes in bigger sizes and one of my go to places is of course Long Tall Sally who stock a huge array of footwear in sizes 7-13.
From today Long Tall Sally are running a campaign called “If the Shoe Fits” and as part of that they invited me to pick out a pair of shoes to flatter larger feet from their high summer collection. It was no easy task thanks to the huge selection of on trend styles but in the end I settled on the perfect sandals which look and feel amazing whilst preventing a dreaded “clown feet” type feel which often happens with the more trend-led styles available on the high street.

Aren’t they beautiful? I love the lace up shoes that are everywhere right now but have found the flat versions do nothing for me as they elongate my feet and make me feel quite self conscious. The heel on these is perfect height for getting a little bit of boost without leaving me towering alarmingly high over everybody else, and they are quite honestly the comfiest sandals I have ever worn. I’m pretty sure I’ve found my shoe of the summer and it’s one I’ll have no qualms about wearing to anywhere and for everything!

Fellow tall girls, which shoe styles do you find most flattering and are there any that you avoid like the plague? Usually for me a pointed toe is a no go zone…

Lotus

I am so delighted that the weather is finally warming up a bit and I can finally wear footwear other than boots! This season I seem to have fallen head over heels for a more sophisticated style of shoe, finding myself smitten with the kitten heel in the brightest colours possible.

Tee: Connected Generation | Skirt: Zara (similar) | Shoes c/o Lotus

Now, I know Lotus probably isn’t the first place to spring to mind when it comes to stylish shoes for a younger generation but trust me when I say they have some lovely bright, bold and beautiful pieces arriving in their shop and I was pleasantly surprised when picking out a pair.

I instantly fell in love with the Tessie style in blue as a new addition to my Spring/Summer footwear selection. I really liked the contrast between a more formal shoe style and an otherwise casual outfit, this skirt was purchased years ago for £3.99 in the Zara sale and it’s probably seen far better days by now but I don’t think I’ll ever persuade myself to part with it…

Back to the shoes though! I do struggle with pointed toe shoes quite a lot as I have wide (flipper!) feet and often find them far too narrow. These however are a perfect fit and 100% true to size too. With clever internal design these are really comfortable and at £50 a sound investment. I’m thinking of picking up a black pair for my work wardrobe- or buying some brighter clothes to wear in the office to clash these with…

It’s always great when a brand you’d previously written off as not for you turns around and surprises you like this, Lotus, I’ll be keeping an eye on you!

A Missguided Sale Wish List

Sale season is upon us again, although with so many going on at any one time it can be hard to keep track! Lately I’ve been using Love the Sales which is essentially a website that collates all of the sales from the UK’s biggest retailers in to one place. It was whilst browsing Love the Sales that I discovered that Missguided have a sale on and that actually there is rather a lot I wouldn’t mind owning from there right now, sod’s law as I’m not buying clothes at the moment but I thought I’d pop my top picks in a post for any one else who might be in the mood for a splurge!
The prices are crazy good, seriously bargain buys. I’m sorely tempted by the white midi pinafore dress which costs just £15 as well as the lace up flat shoes (just £8.00!) and the burgundy tie waist midi skirt for £7.00 which I think would look awesome with some white trainers and a fine knit top.

Anyway, I’m coming dangerously close to giving in and breaking my ban so I’ll leave this post here. Which sales have you been shopping and how do you keep track of them all?
