The Bargain Party Dress

December can be a very expensive month. Between shopping for presents and Christmas parties money seems to flow out faster than I can keep a track of. It doesn’t stop me wanting a new outfit for the annual work party though, despite owning plenty of perfectly serviceable dresses that I’ve worn perhaps only a handful of times before I get an overwhelming urge to pick up a new frock as soon as the date is announced. This year was no exception and I went off to our party on Saturday night in a sparkly new frock that for once didn’t break the bank!

Dress: H&M (get it here) | Shoes: Dune (similar here)

At £12.99 this dress is an utter bargain right? Actually when my Mum ordered it for me (she knew I was taken with it) H&M had it on offer for just £6.99 which is just insane. I did worry that a red dress might be too much with my hair but actually I really liked how it looked and wasn’t going to let my hair dictate what dress I could or couldn’t wear.

As the dress has subtle sparkle running through it I thought it was high time to dig out my super sparkly Dune shoes that only get an outing at this time of year. If you can’t go top-to-toe glitter in December then when can you, right?

In previous years I’ve gone really OTT with the sequins for the work Christmas party but decided to tone it down a notch this year, a simple style isn’t usually how I party but with such a bold colour I really didn’t miss out on the bling.

Do you like to have something new for the party season? Have you spied any bargains on the high street?

Party Pieces and Cyber Monday with Moda in Pelle*

If ever there was a reason to go shopping for a new bag and pair of shoes then it’s party season. Add in to this the fact it’s Cyber Monday and you’re pretty much obliged to pick up a new pair of dancing shoes (and matching clutch, of course!). Moda in Pelle just so happen to have one of the most stunning ranges of party perfect accessories that I’ve seen online so far and with an extra 20% off everything with the code Cyber20 for today only what more reason do you need to indulge in a lunch break browse?
I’ve helpfully (because it’s such a chore) put together a little wish list of my perfect party pairings.
How striking are the Jagger Shoes and matching bag? These are perfect for adding a new twist to your old faithful little black dress and are sparkly enough to allow you to keep jewellery to a minimum.
I love a caged heel and the Lonero style adds a new take on the trend with it’s mesh detailing. These are probably my pick of the bunch out of all off Moda in Pelle’s offerings and I’d take them up a notch by pairing them with the super sparkly Celio diamante clutch (which could probably also double up as an impromptu disco ball!)
For a splash of colour I just love the ombre effect Lucina shoe which comes in two stunning colour ways. A matching bag is also available in the two colours meaning you could mix and match with the mermaid-esque blue shoes and a flame red clutch or vice-versa.
Are you sorted for party season yet? I thought I was but looking at these I’m suddenly not so sure…

Back in Tartan

If there’s one must have print for me in Winter it’s tartan- perhaps my instant association with the festive season or maybe because it loans itself so well to pairing with knitwear, I don’t know what it is but once the clocks go back I begin to crave it.

Top: New Look | Skirt: F&F at Tesco | Boots c/o Just Fab

Let’s take a moment to appreciate my new boots. I was recently given the chance to browse Just Fab and pick out a pair for myself and these were the pair I kept going back to. I had heard of Just Fab before now but hadn’t really checked it out, essentially it’s a shoe subscription site where you can sign up as a member and get a pair of shoes (or newly launched, clothing) for £35 per month. Of course you don’t have to sign up though, you can be a “pay as you go” member and pay a slightly higher price- not a high price mind you as everything is very good value.

These boots are so comfortable and although I was tempted in by some pretty fantastic heeled pairs I decided that something I could, and indeed would wear every day won over. I’ve literally lived in these since they arrived despite my extensive collection of boots, I wasn’t sure I’d ever enjoy a pointed toe but these have converted me and they happen to pair perfectly with one of my favourite ever skirts.

Are there any prints that you favour for the colder months?

Ankle Boot Army at Brantano*

I might be mourning that the season of sandals is over before it really started but the redeeming factor of Autumn/Winter is ankle boots, as I’ve mentioned time and time again I am bordering on obsessed with them- my shoe collection compromises mostly of ankle grazers in all colours, heel heights and styles and yet I still find myself wanting more. Since I got back from my holiday I’ve been consoling my blues with a spot of window shopping (because despite my best attempts, I couldn’t bring back every pair of shoes I fell in love with in Spain), thankfully Brantano have a wonderful array of ankle boots on their website to keep my eyes busy and my wish list growing.
Whilst away I noticed a lot of folk inspired boots in the stores so the tan boots with tapestry detail are my favourite, perfect for pairing with a denim skirt and seventies style tee.

Black ankle boots will always be my achilles heel and the three leather pairs in this wish list are just begging to be bought (all by Clarks who are killing it this season!)

So far I’ve added three pairs of boots to my collection in the last month or so and I have a feeling that before long a few more pairs will be joining them. I’m not the only one who has this obsession, right?

Easily Suede with TTYA x Long Tall Sally

It’s been almost a whole year now since Long Tall Sally launched their first collection in collaboration with TTYA (that’s Taller Than Your Average for those who didn’t know) and I’ve been lucky enough to work with the brands for each new drop. Excitingly their new Autumn/Winter arrivals hit the virtual shelves today and although I feel like I say this every time I blog about them, this really is their best collection to date.

Jumper & Skirt: c/o TTYA x Long Tall Sally new collection | Fringed Boots: Quiz

The new collection has a heavy Seventies influence which suits me down to the ground. I’ve had my eye on a suede mini skirt since long before the Summer and this one is an absolute beauty. At £85 it’s an investment piece for sure but one that I will never not love and the toned down rust colour is a year upon year staple. Likewise with the black polo neck jumper (£50) which is so soft I assumed it was cashmere. this is another one of those pieces that will never ever date and I’m delighted to finally own such a wardrobe basic in a length that suits my taller body perfectly.

Tall ladies, you really must check out the collection if you’re after some serious style this season that won’t leave you flashing your knickers to the world (it happens to me far too often, true story). There’s a stunning suede shift dress and some seriously snazzy chevron prints just landed…you can check it out here!

This outfit was also the perfect excuse to pop on my new ankle boots from Quiz which work wonderfully with this outfit. I recently won a styling competition with Quiz and the second I saw these fringed boots on the site I knew they were mine…did I need ANOTHER pair of ankle boots? Well, no, not really but they do work exceptionally well with this look.

Anyway, back to the brand of the moment…Long Tall Sally just get better and better in my eyes. Over the last few years they’ve become more fashion focused and my go-to place for investment pieces. If I’m going to splurge above Primark prices on clothes I want something that is designed to fit right as well as look good! Have you bought from the TTYA collaborations yet? I dare you to resist this one…
