Baby Blues

This season I am inexplicably drawn to the colour blue, more specifically of the sugary sweet pastel variety. It’s not a colour I’ve ever expressed great love for before, but more and more I find myself heading towards it in shops and when browsing online. Luckily there is no shortage of it right now, and it suits me (I’m trying to forget my bright yellow phase of years gone by…)

Dress c/o Hybrid | Shoes: Clarks via McArthur Glen, Swindon | Bracelet c/o lolaandgrace

A bit of a change of scenery for these photos, forced indoors thanks to a hail storm that lasted all afternoon- just typical when you have a photo session planned! Thankfully our conservatory get’s good light in the afternoon otherwise this dress would still be hanging up unworn! I’ve been very fortunate and sent several dresses from Hyrbid over the last few months and they never fail to make me feel amazing. They aren’t on the cheap end of the scale but are honestly worth every penny- I’ve got this little number (the Atherton style, also available in ivory) earmarked as a potential for a wedding in May as it’s so beautiful in it’s simplicity. What really makes this dress stand out for me is the collar, made out of satin for a gorgeous contrast effect. I thought the gold accessories worked well with the baby blue of the dress, but a pastel colour of any kind would lend itself equally well.
I hope everyone has today off work to sit back and relax. It feels like only hours ago that it was Christmas and yet here we are at the Easter Weekend already. I’m looking forward to spending a few days catching up with my brother who is home for the weekend (nicely timed with his Birthday tomorrow) and generally getting a break from the exhausting cycle of work, rest and play!

What do you have planned? What colours are you loving right now?

Matchy Matchy

I never, ever thought I’d buy in to the co-ord trend when it first gained popularity. It seemed to be made up entirely of tubes of lycra and suited to those at least a decade younger than myself. As it picked up momentum though, and more wearable pieces filtered through to the high street I found myself falling for the mix and match approach- what greater investment than an outfit that also works perfectly as separates?

Top & Skirt: Primark (last summer) | Boots: Dr Martens

The last time this set featured on the blog things were looking a bit more formal. This time I decided to make things a bit more fun and funky with the addition of my bright pink Docs, rediscovered at the back of my wardrobe and worn with everything and anything since.

The bubblegum brightness of the boots picks up the pink detailing in the co-ord perfectly and seriously, who doesn’t love a pair of Dr Martens? Since my rediscovery I’ve found myself coveting several new pairs, not least this amazing pair of oxfords– so perfect for the warmer, sunnier weather!

I’ll be on the lookout for some more matching sets as we roll steadily towards Summer- speaking of which, how exactly is it April already? Roll on the long weekend and the start of all those glorious bank holidays. It’s less than a month until my Birthday too, I’d best start making some plans to celebrate turning the grand old age of 28!

Stepping in to Spring

Finally, it feels like Spring might be on it’s way- by the dates on the calendar at least, the temperatures and weather don’t seem to have caught up yet. This outfit is the second part of my TTYA x Long Tall Sally post and the one where I get to show you the awesome piece from the brand new collection that they sent over for me to style.

Culottes c/o Long Tall Sally | Cropped tee: Primark | Boots: Miista

These photos really, really do not do these culottes justice. It was freezing cold when Mum and I took them and I wish now that I had spent that little bit longer turning a lovely shade of blue to capture them. I’m pretty obsessed with culottes right now though so you can expect to see a lot more of these featuring on the blog in the weeks to come, I just love the powder blue colour and the potential to style them in so many ways.

I kept it pretty simple with this outfit, the cropped tee cost all of £3 in a recent Primark spree (where more culottes were purchased) and the boots just seemed to fit the bill for the weather. Sandals would have been the shoe of choice but it still feels a little too early in the year to part with my beloved boots.

I’d love to know what ideas you guys have for styling these culottes, I plan to wear the heck out of them through Spring and Summer and I don’t want my lack of imagination to slow me down!

Hop to it

Fashion and chocolate are two of my favourite things in life so when the two collide it’s a sure fire winner as far as I’m concerned. This Easter Lindt have released a limited edition fashion gold bunny weighing in at an impressive 500g to inject some style in to the long weekend. One managed to hop in my direction and I thought it only right and fair that it made it’s blog appearance in the form of an outfit post accessory.

Top & Culottes: New Look | Boots: Jonak at Sarenza | Bunny c/o Lindt

I’ve photographed the fashion bunny next to a standard sized (and rather plain) lindt bunny for comparison- this is quite the beast and the entire household are itching to break in to it although I’m determined it will last at least until Good Friday before being devoured. The gold bunny is an Easter staple in this house and I always end up with several between the best friend and my boyfriend and they are always enjoyed.
You might notice over the coming weeks that I’ve developed a bit of a thing for culottes lately, especially for wearing to work. I think they are just so practical and look pretty awesome even if they would be better with bare legs and sandals- come on Spring/Summer, we’re almost there! This pair were reduced to a fiver in the New Look sale last year and I don’ give them nearly enough love, I think I need to pick up some electric blue tops to compliment the print though and move away from black.
What’s your favourite treat at Easter? This year (other than the gold bunny of course) all I want is an M&Ms easter egg from the 99p shop. I’ve been obsessed with M&Ms for way too long now, I eat a pack a day and I am forever jealous of those in the USA with all their crazy flavours.

What do you think of the fashion bunny? It’s going to break my heart to rip in to that pretty foil!

The Hardworker

As much as I love and cherish my Mulberry handbag I do like to change things up every now and again (not to mention give it a bit of a break!) so when House of Fraser offered to send me a product from their impressive array of accessories I skipped right by the shoes for perhaps the first time ever and headed straight for the bags. I’ve been wanting a “trendy” backpack for ages now, although I had reservations about how much I’d use it- finding a bag that could be both traditional handbag AND a backpack? I’m living the dream!

Jumper c/o Wearall | Jeans: Primark | Converse via Sarenza | Bag c/o House of Fraser- out of stock but huge selection here!

The bag is by Steve Madden and is now out of stock on the House of Fraser website, probably because it was a crazy bargain in their sale! I just love the mid-blue colour, it makes such a change from my usual black or brown and the silver details toughen it up just a touch. It’s the perfect size for all of my every day essentials (plus a whole host of stuff I carry around but can’t exactly be called essential) and it’s great to have the option between backpack and handbag, perfect for someone as indecisive and fickle as I.
I couldn’t resist giving my cat jumper an airing, it’s probably my most worn piece of knitwear from the last 12 months and it’s the perfect way to cheer up a day where you feel more than a little bit rubbish. I keep meaning to pick up another pair of these skinny jeans from Primark, I paid £9 for this pair over a year ago and they have worn and washed so well, especially compared to other pairs I have that I’ve paid rather a lot more for. I feel like I should step away from the skinnies for a while though, I really fancy embracing a pair of flares but have yet to find any that are just right- length is a big issue for me but I’m searching in earnest!

I probably ought to look to replace my Converse before too long as well, worn to death the rubber is starting to split and they just look tired. I do think Converse look best once they have been worn in a bit but I think I’m starting to take the look a bit too far- it doesn’t stop me slipping them on at any given opportunity though!

Backpack vs. Handbag- which would you pick?
