Lotus

I am so delighted that the weather is finally warming up a bit and I can finally wear footwear other than boots! This season I seem to have fallen head over heels for a more sophisticated style of shoe, finding myself smitten with the kitten heel in the brightest colours possible.

Now, I know Lotus probably isn’t the first place to spring to mind when it comes to stylish shoes for a younger generation but trust me when I say they have some lovely bright, bold and beautiful pieces arriving in their shop and I was pleasantly surprised when picking out a pair.

I instantly fell in love with the Tessie style in blue as a new addition to my Spring/Summer footwear selection. I really liked the contrast between a more formal shoe style and an otherwise casual outfit, this skirt was purchased years ago for £3.99 in the Zara sale and it’s probably seen far better days by now but I don’t think I’ll ever persuade myself to part with it…

Back to the shoes though! I do struggle with pointed toe shoes quite a lot as I have wide (flipper!) feet and often find them far too narrow. These however are a perfect fit and 100% true to size too. With clever internal design these are really comfortable and at £50 a sound investment. I’m thinking of picking up a black pair for my work wardrobe- or buying some brighter clothes to wear in the office to clash these with…

It’s always great when a brand you’d previously written off as not for you turns around and surprises you like this, Lotus, I’ll be keeping an eye on you!

Spring in Monochrome

It’s hardly groundbreaking but the other day, spurred on by the slightly warmer weather I discarded my more standard weekend wear of jeans and a knit for something a bit more “daring” if you will- my beloved culotte playsuit from New Look layered up with a simple black tee and my trusty black leather ankle boots.

I picked this playsuit up last year in a Summer sale for something silly like £10. It was an impulse purchase and to be honest one I thought I’d wear once and then forget all about. That was almost the case until I re-discovered it when I moved out in January. Since then it’s been sat in my wardrobe waiting for me to brave it and wear it again and eventually I have and it’s reminded me just how much I love this piece.

I’m now trying to psych myself up for the mammoth task of packing away my “winter wardrobe” and schlepping it back to my parents’ house and swapping it for my “summer” selection. I’m a bit afraid to commit too soon as the weather is so changeable but at the same time I’m utterly sick of everything I’ve been wearing lately that I feel a change will do me good. I’m not sure I’ll feel any better about what awaits me in the warm weather collection either to be honest, I’m a bit jaded with everything I own as nothing currently fits as it should and as I’ve mentioned before, I’m on a self imposed clothes buying ban until I’m in a healthier place.

Oops, I went off on a ranting tangent again didn’t I? It’s only a matter of time before I cave in and buy a few new wardrobe additions I’m sure…where have you been loving lately and have you re-found any hidden gems tucked away in your wardrobe?

Orla Kiely at WatchShop.com

If there’s one thing I love it’s a good watch and despite only being able to wear one at a time I have quite a vast collection of them. Still, there’s always room for one or two more and when I was offered the chance to pick a new timepiece from watchshop.com and noticed a rather stunning range of watches by the ubiquitous Orla Kiely I was powerless to resist.

The packaging alone is enough to make me want to own even more Orla Kiely watches, with her signature print adorning both the outer and inner box this is something you’ll proudly want to display. When it came to the watches themselves, well there’s a rather vast selection from metal with embellished dials to more classic leather straps and prints galore but it was the retro feeling “Poppy” that stole my heart in the prettiest of pale pinks with rose gold metalware.
There aren’t enough adjectives in the world to describe how much I love this watch and the feeling isn’t exclusive to me as my non-watch wearing mother is determined to have it from me at some point! Despite my many watches this has instantly become my go-to for it’s delicate size and subtle statement making skills- must have for any fan of Orla Kiely.
Who are some of your favourite watch designers? I didn’t even know Orla Kiely did watches and now I fear it might be a very dangerous (read costly) discovery although with prices from £75 through to £165 her timepieces are thankfully more affordable than some!

The Dressing Gown Coat

I was so excited to wake up on the morning of Good Friday to find glorious sunshine and mild weather- what a perfect start to the ten glorious days off of work I had stretching out ahead of me! It also meant I could finally ditch the heavy winter coat and break out a new purchase from a few weeks ago (what clothes buying ban?) when I popped in to Cabot Circus with my Mum. I don’t often pay Urban Outfitters a visit but when I do I seem to always end up purchasing some real bargains.

Coat: Urban Outfitters | Jeans: New Look | Boots: c/o Lunar Shoes

Ben wasted no time in pointing out that this coat bears more than a small resemblance to a dressing gown but I personally feel like that’s part of the charm! I love the midi-length, nifty hood and belted detail. I also loved the price at just £15 reduced from £89! It pairs perfectly with the latest addition to my jeans collection (which is frankly just this pair at present) which were another bargain at £8 in New Look due to a bit of a stain on one of the legs that I soon managed to wash out. I’ve been in desperate need of some jeans to wear until I fit back in to my usual selection but as I aim to grow out of them before too long I didn’t want to spend much at all so these fit the bill perfectly. Add in my faithful brown ankle boots from Lunar Shoes and you pretty much have my weekend uniform until it warms up enough to ditch the coat completely.
I hope everyone has been enjoying the long weekend, it’s been a very lazy one here with a visit to my parents and cooking my very first roast dinner which made me feel oddly grown up (and so it should at almost 29 years old!). I still have another week before I’m due back at work with no idea what I might do yet, Ben’s on Easter break from his job in a school and although we had grand ideas of days out and productivity the reality is more likely to be a few sea front strolls and a lot of time on the sofa eating chocolate!

TTYA x LTS SS16

Ok, so every time a new collection from TTYA x Long Tall Sally drops I declare it to be the best yet and this post is going to be no exception. The SS16 range dropped online just a couple of days ago and it’s a feel good, adventure ready range perfect for festival season (which really is just around the corner right?
It always delights me when something exclusive to tall girls launches as I know there will be no knicker flashing or ankle swinging going on and luckily for me I was allowed to take my pick of one of the outfits from the collection to style up and call my own…
I was instantly drawn to the wide legged dungarees (£80) over everything else. That’s kind of a slight lie, but as I’m not destined to head to any festivals, or even on holiday this year I wanted to pick out something that I could incorporate in to a more day to day feel. It was a toss up between this outfit and the red wrap dress but in the end the denim won over and styled with the bobble trim cropped top (£30) this is my favourite outfit that I’ve worn in a very long time…slightly more fashion forward than my recent wearings but at the same time it isn’t too in your face and try hard. I’m in love, essentially and it’s not often you’ll find me saying that kind of thing about my own sense of style.

Should I happen to get any invites to a festival or get jetted off for a break in the sun I’ll be coveting the rest of this fantastic collaboration as my capsule luggage contents, it’s an easy, breezy free spirited collection that has totally won me over.

Which is your favourite piece? I can’t wait to pair up these dungarees with other things and pop on the cropped top with a high waisted denim skirt when the weather hots up.
