Ankle Boots for Summer with JD Williams

Once again rather a lot of time has passed between outfit posts, I’m not sure anyone is actually missing them but I have missed doing them and now I have found myself living permanently back with my parents (well, for the for-seeable at least) I will probably get more chance to start snapping what I wear again. This Summer has been an absolute nightmare in terms of deciding what to wear- from heatwaves to torrential rain over the course of a few days it’s been tough to get any kind of consistency or theme going on or to plan ahead. I guess that’s the beauty of living in England though, it certainly knows how to keep us on our toes!

I seem to have skipped sandals almost entirely this year, opting instead for a mix of trainers and my ever faithful ankle boots. JD Williams recently asked me if I’d like to pick out a pair of ankle boots from their website and show how I would wear them for Summer and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to show the kind of things I’ve been choosing to wear lately.

The skirt I’m wearing was an absolute bargain at £5.99 in the Pull and Bear sale. I had only popped in to town the other week to keep myself busy when faced with a long day alone and I’m really glad I did! It’s quite a lightweight denim so perfect to wear now but it will also layer up nicely with tights for the colder months ahead. I’ve always loved the combination of denim skirts and ankle boots and I think the tan leather of these JD Williams pair goes perfectly with the cut and colour of this skirt.

The top is actually meant to be a bardot neckline but after trying and failing numerous times to get along with them I gave up and popped it firmly back on my shoulders. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I still really like how this adds a bright and breezy component to the outfit, although typically a jacket also made an appearance later in the day.

Ankle boots in my eyes are a year round essential as they go with everything from knitwear to a summery floral frock. This is how I justify having such a large collection of ankle boots to myself anyway, and that fact I have at least another 5 pairs on my wish list…well, there IS nothing worse than cold feet no matter what time of year right?

How do you wear ankle boots in the summer? Or are they a seasonal shoe in your eyes?

Embroidery and Elephants

With my love of Henryka Jewellery already well documented on the blog it won’t surprise you in the least that I follow pretty much all of their social media channels. So when, last week I caught sight of a stunning new arrival and then kindly offered to send me one that I graciously (and very swiftly) accepted.

Whilst all of the stone choices were stunning for some reason rose quartz has always been something I am drawn to, rumoured to lower stress and tension in the heart, allowing repair of the damage caused my negative emotions (an also known as the romance stone as it’s believed it can also attract love) this was always the stone I picked when taken to various fossil and crystal shops on Devon holidays as a child.

The detailing on the Indian elephant is just beautiful and it hangs like a dream from it’s 16.5″ chain. It seems to be, the perfect summer silver accessory and as such I’ve been wearing it non-stop.

Vest: Primark (last year) | Jeans: Glamorous (some sizes still available) | Sandals: Sarenza (similar here)

Technically I’m on a clothes buying ban until I’ve put on enough weight to buy things that will fit me in the long term, just not for this interim period but these jeans…oh these jeans broke me! I’d been eyeing them up full price, so I when I saw them in the sale for just £15 I caved. And you know what? That’s ok, I refuse to feel bad about that. Just because I’m not in the greatest place physically or mentally right now I still deserve treats…and a pair of jeans that doesn’t leave my arse exposed to the world is actually kind of essential right?

I got a distinct 90s vibe from this outfit. I don’t know if it was the plaits that tipped the balance, the flatform sandals or just the “mom jeans” style but I felt transported back a couple of decades. Which is no bad thing in my eyes as long as there is a resurgence of shell suits any time soon.

The one where I actually get dressed!

Sick leave has made me lazy when it comes to getting dressed. Most days I just chuck on a pair of jeans and a slogan tee, or my trust denim pinafore and call it job done. This might be practical but doesn’t always lend itself to feeling confident so on the days where I know I am seeing someone or going somewhere I do push myself to make a bit of an effort!

This Emily and Fin dress is one of my favourite dresses and I don’t wear it nearly often enough. It’s one of those that just flatters and fits. I instantly felt so much better when I popped this outfit on, hence the outfit photos which I am slowly trying to get some confidence back in doing.

As much as I love sandals and dainty shoes I couldn’t break away from the call of my holographic Converse to pair with this outfit. I know casual trainers and girly dresses has been done to death but I love it and probably always will!

I’m going to be staying with my parents for a couple of weeks now and I have been selective in my packing (leaving the jeans behind!) so with Mum on hand I’m hoping to get back in to blogging properly…I’m not expecting miracles though, that denim pinafore of mine is verrrry forgiving!

Denim Dedication with George at Asda

Jeans and I have a slightly love/hate relationship. From the ages of 15-20 I pretty much lived in them solidly with a carefully curated collection of pairs I knew I could rely on. For a while though I just didn’t like jeans at all. I suddenly took against every pair I owned and just couldn’t find anything I liked enough to replace them. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago at the grand old age of 27 that I decided to brave jeans again, branching out and trying new styles and shops and learning to embrace cuts that previously I would never have contemplated.

George at Asda have recently done some research in to the ultimate Jeans Queens and invited me to take a look at their selection of denim and pick out a pair to style. With my collection slowly and surely building again and inspired by the selection of gorgeous bloggers featured on the Jeans Queen page I decided to select a pair of Summer skinnies to my denim wardrobe.

Cold Shoulder Top, Sandals and Jeans all c/o George at Asda

At £16 these jeans are an absolute steal and fit me as well as any other high street brand, if not better. I felt like the belt gave this an almost boho vibe so rolled with the theme and picked out this beautiful and on trend crochet cold shoulder top and embellished sandals to finish the look. It might not be adventurous or truly fashion forward but this is the kind of thing you’ll find me wearing over the Summer weekends, perfect for a seafront stroll or picnic in the park and the jeans will look equally as good with one of my beloved slogan tees and my faithful Converse too!

Are you a denim devotee? Who’s jeans style do you admire most? I find bloggers far more inspirational than any celebrity if I’m honest and I have serious wardrobe envy over much of my bloglovin’ feed. After seeing them on several of my favourites I’m thinking some bright and funky embellished jeans are next on the list…

Saying it with a Tee

Every fashion season I get obsessed with one particular style of clothing. For winter it was roll neck tops and for Summer it’s the slogan tee. I’ve picked up quite a few already- not the loud and proud slogans of my youth, I’ve been drawn to it’s more grown up sibling. Just a little bit of quirky detail that makes a subtle statement. Daisy Street has been almost the sole source of this season’s obsession with it’s brilliant range affordable statement tees, at £12.99 a pop I already have four to my name with my sights on a fair few more!

Tees c/o Daisy Street | Dungarees c/o Long Tall Sally | Denim Skirt: New Look

The combination of denim with a slogan tee has become my default outfit choice of late. Usually I alternate between my trust denim pinafore dress or the denim skirt you can see above but I also love these wide leg dungarees a lot so once I get around to finding some wearable heeled sandals these will be taking a more regular place in my denim parade.

I sometimes feel I should be branching out a bit in what I’m wearing at the moment but I’m in a funny situation where I’m off work and not many of my clothes fit. This is something I feel cool and comfortable in- if it ain’t broke don’t fix it right?

Have you got a uniform of sorts right now? What slogan would you most like on a tee?
