The Sailor Dress

I’m trying really, really hard not to shop at the moment. I’m still paying out for driving lessons and trying to put money back for moving out and running a car in the near future. Sometimes though, despite the best of intentions a purchase happens. Especially when you see your perfect casual dress, with free delivery AND a discount code, damn you H&M.

I know this would have been better styled with bare legs and sandals, but it isn’t quite bare legs and sandals weather yet (for me at least) but I was too impatient to wait to wear this dress. I’ve had a soft spot for nautical style for as far back as I can remember but had never found the perfect sea-worthy dress until now. It was a purchase I could well have done without making, but at £14.99 I couldn’t not get this and it’s the perfect casual dress for weekends- and it’s insanely comfortable and will be perfect for Spring and Summer.

I’m feeling a bit rubbish about my photography again hence so few photos in posts right now. Nothing is quite up to standard when it comes to posing and location. At least now we have longer, lighter days and hopefully better weather I can start thinking outside the box a bit more. To be honest I’ve been feeling pretty rubbish about all aspects of life lately and that’s having a huge knock on effect on everything I enjoy…oh well, the only way is up!

Seventies Style

Ever since it became apparent that the fashion world was shifting away from skinnies I’ve been obsessed with finding the perfect pair of flared jeans. I searched all over the high street but eventually ended up back at my original starting place, as is so often the case. I’m not usually one to jump on to a trend bandwagon but the Summer Seventies revival has got me, completely got me. I have a huge yearning to fill my wardrobe with floaty maxi dresses, a-line mini suede skirts and bell bottoms galore.

It has been a long time since I last owned a pair of Mango jeans and I had forgotten just how much I rate the brand for denim- I find it suits my height and build perfectly, where other brands don’t seem to. It was love at first sight when I saw this 70’s flared pair on ASOS for a mere £22, they have since sold out but I have linked to the indigo version above (next on my list I think!).

I’ve come to realise over the last few weeks that I own very few tops that aren’t basic vests or knits, which makes putting outfits together problematic at times. I saw this gypsy style number in my local New Look and couldn’t resist, it was made for pairing with these jeans and as it also comes in a tan colour I might be going back for another.

I think gold jewellery might have gone with this outfit better but I couldn’t wait to show off this statement silver ring from Hazel and Kent (a brand I discovered through the e-tail PR blogger network). I can’t find the exact style on the website anymore but there are similar styles available for under a tenner- such a bargain for such a statement, high quality piece!

All I need now is some platform sandals for when the weather warms up and this outfit is good to go, I’m dying to get out of ankle boots and (on a good day) trainers…come on weather, it’s time to let me free those feet!

The Hardworker

As much as I love and cherish my Mulberry handbag I do like to change things up every now and again (not to mention give it a bit of a break!) so when House of Fraser offered to send me a product from their impressive array of accessories I skipped right by the shoes for perhaps the first time ever and headed straight for the bags. I’ve been wanting a “trendy” backpack for ages now, although I had reservations about how much I’d use it- finding a bag that could be both traditional handbag AND a backpack? I’m living the dream!

The bag is by Steve Madden and is now out of stock on the House of Fraser website, probably because it was a crazy bargain in their sale! I just love the mid-blue colour, it makes such a change from my usual black or brown and the silver details toughen it up just a touch. It’s the perfect size for all of my every day essentials (plus a whole host of stuff I carry around but can’t exactly be called essential) and it’s great to have the option between backpack and handbag, perfect for someone as indecisive and fickle as I.
I couldn’t resist giving my cat jumper an airing, it’s probably my most worn piece of knitwear from the last 12 months and it’s the perfect way to cheer up a day where you feel more than a little bit rubbish. I keep meaning to pick up another pair of these skinny jeans from Primark, I paid £9 for this pair over a year ago and they have worn and washed so well, especially compared to other pairs I have that I’ve paid rather a lot more for. I feel like I should step away from the skinnies for a while though, I really fancy embracing a pair of flares but have yet to find any that are just right- length is a big issue for me but I’m searching in earnest!

I probably ought to look to replace my Converse before too long as well, worn to death the rubber is starting to split and they just look tired. I do think Converse look best once they have been worn in a bit but I think I’m starting to take the look a bit too far- it doesn’t stop me slipping them on at any given opportunity though!

Mustard Florals

It might be March now but things are still feeling distinctly chilly, I honestly can’t wait to be able to ditch the long sleeves and winter coats but as I have added some seriously lovely Winter dresses to my collection over the last six months I don’t mind too much that they are still required- cost per wear and all that…

After a spate of popping in to Joy and making a cheeky purchase every time I was in Bristol I haven’t actually made a purchase now since before Christmas. I’m trying to get together a few extra funds in order to update my wardrobe for Spring/Summer and judging by the new in section on the Joy website it looks like a few of those pennies will be heading their way.
How long has it been since I last sported a pair of snazzy tights? It’s been quite some time for sure. I still have my vast collection, of course, but I seem to have little cause to wear them these days- between wearing uniform for most of my shifts, and having to wear smart office type clothes for the rest of the time I just reach for something plain, or jeans when I am wearing casual clothes. I think I’ll make it a mission for the upcoming weeks to incorporate something jazzy a bit more often, I’d forgotten how much of an impact some patterned tights can add to an otherwise plain outfit.
What’s on your shopping list for the new season? Top of mine is a pair of flared jeans and then perhaps some other Seventies inspired pieces (that’s a whole other post). I have a lot of clothes from previous years that are still going strong, and I need to watch my money so I won’t be doing a lot of shopping but I’m not going to deny myself completely.
