Red Hot

Red is a colour I really don’t wear very much. I spent years being a little afraid of it, fearing it a little too bold for my shy nature. As my confidence grew I began to feel a bit braver about wearing it (and other bright colours) but then I dyed my hair red and have since mostly avoided it for fear of a major colour clash. Sometimes I do like to branch out though and only red will do…

Jumper: New Look | Skirt c/o ASOS (tall range) | Shoes c/o Rainbow Club | Ring: Pandora

I might have deemed these shoes the “perfect party shoe” but I couldn’t resist wearing to add a sparkly twist to a daytime look as well. I love the combination of red and silver and I think they go wonderfully with my flared out midi skirt- always a winner for adding a touch of sophistication to an outfit.
I’m 100% in love with my little bow ring from Pandora, a Christmas present from Ben. It’s not left my finger since he gave it to me- I love silver rings but haven’t got that many in my collection any more as most of the ones I had an loved are far too small. This one is just perfect for wearing alone or stacking with others…I’ll be dropping a few Pandora related hints when it comes to my birthday, too!
Hair colour aside I’ll be making more effort to wear more of the colours I avoid, such as red and orange- I think they are perfect for this time of year especially- cold, wet and grey days need an injection of bright colour! The lack of sunshine and constant dampness might explain my grumpy face in most photos taken of me recently, I’m just not cut out for Winter!

Hidden Gems

What is Christmas without a little sparkle? The closer we get to December 25th the more glitter I plaster on- eyeliner, jewellery or my clothes it doesn’t really matter I just love an excuse to look like a disco ball!

Dress: Blog Sale (from the marvellous Terri) | Boots c/o Ikrush | Headband: Crown and Glory | Ring c/o QVC

I haven’t taken off this Christmas ring from QVC since it’s arrival as it just goes perfectly with everything I have been wearing lately. Don’t be fooled by it’s name though as it’s not just for Christmas, this is one piece I’ll be getting a lot of wear from! Less can be said for my Crown and Glory headband as really it only gets worn a couple of times a year but when they launched this design a year ago I just couldn’t resist treating myself and the novelty factor and unique design will last me for years to come. I’m not usually one to wear headbands but this one doesn’t irritate me or make behind my ears hurt so it was well worth the money for that alone!
I’m actually sporting a manicure for once, which I had done at Blog Club during my week off. It’s a rare occasion that I get to have painted nails as I can’t have them for work so I took full advantage of the skill at Bettie & Baldwins and went for a decidedly un-festive hot pink look. I usually begrudge paying to have my nails done but this was still going strong by the time I had to take it off to go back to work five days later. For me this is some kind of miracle and I could probably have got another five days from it easily. I couldn’t resist having some glitter added, I mean, it’d be rude not to at this time of year!
Only a week until Christmas Eve and I’m raring to go (kind of). Everything is done and I’m either spreading festive spirit at work or working at home from the comfort of my bed whilst wearing novelty jumpers or plenty of tartan (I just love this dress!) working on some freelance stuff before taking a few days off. I’ll be winding down the blogging a little over the next couple of weeks too as things are pretty manic, I’m pretty sure my daily posts are becoming a bit of a bore any way!
Do you like to sparkle at Christmas?

Best of British (part one)

It’s been a long time since I had a new addition to my tights collection that wasn’t plain black or nude. Tights used to be “my thing” but ever since I started working pretty much full time there has been less and less place for my crazy colours in my wardrobe during the week and at weekends I tend to find myself slobbing out in jeans and a jumper. Still, when Marks and Spencer offered to send me a couple of pairs from their “Best of British” collection (which celebrates British Design with some cracking pieces) I could hardly say no- the tights queen still resides in me somewhere!

Coat: Joy | Dress: A-Wear | Tights c/o Marks and Spencer | Boots c/o Duo | Necklace c/o Modern Vintage Style | Bag: Mulberry

I’ve not really managed to capture the pattern on the tights here but they are a truly gorgeous grey and black houndstooth which just so happen to be perfect for work. I paired them with this simple skater dress that I picked up a couple of years ago for just £5. I wish now I’d bought a couple as it just gets better with age, it has the perfect flattering fit and is the softest jersey I’ve ever worn. My trusty Duo boots finished the office attire, I’ve been living in this ever since they arrived and I get compliments all the time.
No outfit would be complete at the moment without my pink coat, it’s the redeeming feature of the colder weather and attracts a lot of attention. I’m hopeless at capturing what handbag I’m using on a daily basis but as I was out and about on a little (Christmas) shopping trip with my best friend and my Mum it seemed rude not to pop my Mulberry in to the pictures. I was so worried I would be too scared to use such an expensive bag, but actually I use it most days as it’s the perfect size for carrying around all my rubbish; on a cost-per-wear basis it’ll soon be practically free!
Lately I’ve been wearing this gorgeous necklace from Modern Vintage Style with everything. I love the unusual Smokey Quartz and the way it catches the light. The website is a fairly new find for me and I love everything they have on sale. With a gorgeous mix of vintage and handmade pieces there is something for everyone. My magpie eye has homed in on several more stunners to add to my collection.
This has turned in to quite a lengthy post as for once I have a lot to say about what I am wearing. I have another pair of these tights to style and feature in an up-coming post which I can’t wait to show you…dear tights, I’m sorry I neglected you for so long!

Zodiac Engagement Rings at Vashi

I feel like I should preface this post with an “I’m not engaged” disclaimer, before people go getting carried away! I do however know lots of engaged people (because you know, I’m at that age now) and have spent rather a lot of time admiring very sparkly rings.

It’s been a while since I last featured any jewellery on the blog so when I heard about Vashi’s Zodiac ring look-book I figured it was as good as time as any to pop up some seriously covetable bling!

This is a collection inspired by astrology with a ring selected for every star sign (so twelve in all) each selected because they match the personality and traits of each sign. I’ve popped images for each ring below and if you hover over you can find out which star sign they represent.
I’m a taurus and the ring for my sign is actually pretty spot on when it coms to my taste- I’m really interested to know what your star sign is and what you think of the ring that Vashi have allocated for it- I think this is a lovely way to help select such a special piece, although granted it’s not going to work for everyone- very much like horoscopes themselves.
