Using creative office design to spark workers’ imaginations

The long-term success of many organisations hinges on the creativity and ingenuity of their employees. It is no surprise therefore that bosses are eager to harness their workers’ imaginations to the full.
Traditional office design is not necessarily effective in this respect. Perpendicular rows of desks and cubicles, stuffy meeting rooms and dull decor are not great when it comes to spurring people’s inventiveness. To help boost the creativeness of their staff members, firms are increasingly turning to more unusual office designs, as well as an interesting and varied selection of office supplies.

Zoning
One hot trend right now is so-called ‘zoning’. This is when offices are divided up into distinct areas ranging from quiet spots filled with desks and chairs to informal breakout spaces complete with contemporary furniture. Companies can pick up all the seating and other products they need from suppliers such as Calibre Office Furniture.
These zones can be based around different themes. For example, certain areas may be made to look like gardens and other like libraries or lounges. As workers pass between the different spaces, their thought processes and moods can change, and this is a great way to stimulate creativity.
Also, informal, communal areas are a great place for employees to brainstorm and this can spark new and exciting ideas.
Lightening the mood
On a similar theme, a rising number of offices now feature relaxation areas complete with games consoles, ping pong tables and more . These design extras can help to lighten the mood, boost morale and make people more relaxed and better placed to think.
Creating a buzz
Silence may be great for certain types of work, but it’s not always right if people want to get in tune with their creativity. This means it’s important for offices to have the right level of background buzz. If this doesn’t happen naturally in offices, it’s possible to play so-called ‘pink noise’. This is less harsh than white noise and it resembles wind, waves or rain.
When there is enough background noise, people feel less inhibited to talk and interact.
Personal items
A really simple way for firms to foster creativity among their personnel is to allow them to bring in a few personal items such as photos and coffee mugs. These objects can really brighten offices up and they can help to put workers at ease.
When people feel like part of a community, they tend to act more naturally and this can boost innovation.
Quiet time
As the previous points highlight, much of the emphasis in modern office design is centred on an informal, social approach. However, it’s important to leave space in working environments for people to operate in peace and quiet if they wish.
Not everyone is the same and some people find it easier to generate ideas in the absence of conversation and general noise.
Getting workers involved
For the best results, it’s a good idea to involve workers in the design process. Their input can prove invaluable. After all, who could be better placed to know what will help them work best than the employees themselves?

Home&Beauty- Luxury Bathroom Wish List

Well look at me on a roll with the beauty posts, although this one also includes a little bit of my other current non-fashion obsession- interiors. I’m spending an unhealthy amount of time browsing online for both homewares/furniture as well as beauty products, both of which are so far outside of my current budget I don’t know why I do it to myself.
I’ve always wanted an illuminated bathroom mirror, I’ve used them in hotels and they are brilliant for makeup application and general beautification. Right now I’m loving the idea of having a bathroom cabinet that doubles up as an illuminated mirror, such as this HIB Tissano Silver Illuminated Bathroom Cabinet which would look pretty snazzy in any bathroom worth bathing in and is space saving too as it’s both storage and functional
The Space.NK. website has become a bit of an unhealthy obsession of late. My recent foray in to some higher end beauty and skin products has left me wanting more and everything in the images above comes from here (hover over the images for details of each product). Haircare is usually an area I prefer to save in, having picked up some recent gems in 99p shops but my hair is feeling a bit battered lately and not looking it’s best since switching from red to purple so in an ideal world I’d be investing in something a bit more luxurious for it.
I’ve fallen out of the habit of long, luxurious soaks in the bath, having had a bad back for months and months they have become purely functional but I’m now finding myself craving an hour of peace and quiet with candles burning and a good book, leaving me feeling fragrant and refreshed. I’ve used Laura Mercier makeup in the past and loved it so I have pretty high hopes that gorgeous looking bath and shower products are to the same high standard.
Let me know if you’ve used any of the products I’ve featured, or what others I should be dreaming of owning, maybe later in the year I might be enjoying pampering myself with some of them- the cabinet however will have to wait for some time yet!

Interior Ambitions: Little Lovebirds

This year is very most likely the year where I finally move out of my parent’s home (I can hear their party plans already!) and set up a home of my own. This has sent me in to a kind of frenzy involving all things interiors; I’m obsessing over bowls, browsing sofas and storage and looking for quirky little accessories. All this and I have no solid plans yet!
I was recently sent this gorgeous vintage inspired birdcage lantern from hanging lanterns and although I have set it up to take photos for this post it has since been safely stored away ready for when I do fly the nest. I’ve always had a bit of a thing for candles, lanterns and all things glowy and this is simply beautiful. Powered by a teeny tiny button light this lantern is easy to assemble and adds a soft glow to any room- it can even be hung outside in the summer, I can imagine these being perfect at a laid back BBQ or even an outdoors wedding party. Although the lantern is made of paper it’s a sturdy little thing and I envisage it lasting quite some time, you can even purchase additional lights for it to prolong the life and usage.
I may not know where I’ll end up living yet but I do know that this lantern will have pride of place in the bedroom or living room, and by then I’ll probably have added to my collection.
Talk to me of your interior obsessions and of moving out of the family home.

Interior Ambitions

Call it the Pinterest effect but lately I’ve found myself browsing interior design websites and online shops more and more frequently; an obsession which is only likely increase when the time comes to actually move out of my Parent’s home.
Lately I’ve been loving the selection of products on Fabrics & Papers…specialising mostly in well, fabrics and papers there are also some really gorgeous decorative pieces that I would one day love to add to my own abode.

What would you have in your dream home?

How have you decorated where you live now? DIY decorative ideas welcome…

Playing House- Jewellery Storage

I own a lot of jewellery, so much so that even the inbuilt storage I have inside my wardrobe (good old Ikea!) was struggling to cope, so when Out There Interiors got in touch asking if I’d like to pick a product I was instantly drawn to this rather charming jewellery cabinet to store my favourite pieces.
The hanging space inside is just right for rings and bracelets- I think you’d struggle to fit in necklaces but that’s fine by me, I love how neat and chic this looks and it means I can grab my most worn within seconds rather than rooting through everything I own!
I hadn’t heard of Out There Interiors before but I’m in love with their website especially the amazing range of French Furniture, there are some seriously chic pieces and if I had my own place my bank balance would be in serious danger right now.
For now I shall be making do with my new jewellery home, it now hangs proudly on my wall and adds a grown up and vintage touch to my girly bedroom- grown up if you remove the soft toys and random novelties that are scattered around!
How do you store your jewellery? I love finding new solutions so I can indulge my inner magpie.
