early mornings

Asda George (old), Tesco tights, New Look.

I love this dress, one of the redeeming factors of this chillier weather is the need for slightly longer sleeves. I remember hating the scarf print trend when it first emerged but the second I clamed eyes on this Asda gem I was converted. Of course, this trend has now long departed but this dress will be round for quite some time.
And these boots,
much coveted when they came out last year and snapped up for a mere £7 in one of New Look’s many sales; that’s shopping karma folk!

Thank you for all the lovely comments on my hair. When I had it cut I also had a lot of the bulk taken out…I have been cursed/blessed with exceptionally thick hair which is my main barrier to style. It means that FINALLY I have hair that I can wash and leave to try naturally, all I’ve been doing is spritzing it with this Studio Line Matt & Messy Salt Spray and I’m done. I picked mine up in Superdrug for a mere £1.49, but even at full price (£2.99) it’s a bargain and it smells gorgeous to boot.
Eventually my hair that dries outwards will return, but only if I keep putting off that trim! It’s nice to have the option of not straightening it yet not having to tie it up to hide the evidence.

What trends have you converted to?

What miracle hair products do you swear by?

So, like I mentioned yesterday, I re-did my red hair! It feels so good to be back to vibrant colour and I love the positive attention it attracts. I remain faithful to Life Salon Style; Intense Red which I buy in bulk when on offer- the upside of this new, shorter hair is I once again only need one box. I really like this length for my hair, someone remind me to keep it up?! I’m hopeless at booking in for maintenance.

Wearing floral dress c/o Matalan which won me the very first Style Project well over a year ago now! The tights are from New Look and were a “well done” gift from work, and the boots are c/o Ellos. I’m not sure why I’m wearing boots all of a sudden, I should be making the most of the nice weather and the last chance to wear sandals until next year!

Well, we’re half way through the working week; congratulations on making it so far! How’s it going for you?

After months of putting it off, I finally went and booked a haircut…a much needed one and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect after a truly horrible morning at work.

I didn’t have any particular style in mind, just something easy to maintain and that’s what I got! My head feels a heck of a lot lighter minus about 10 inches of hair and half of it’s bulk (the curse of not just thick, but plentiful hair!)
Now the challenge is the upkeep, this is where I usually fail! Feel free to share miracle products and styling tips with me! I’m going back to vibrant red at the weekend.

And don’t forget, there are still a few hours left to win £20 with Matalan, the giveaway closes at 7pm. Chop chop!

Guest Post; The Resurgence of Red Hair

I love being a red-head.

• A Little History Lesson About Red Hair

The resurgence of red hair is an exciting and new trend hitting many areas of the world this
year. Lots of fashion-forward girls are saying goodbye to the recently trendy platinum and jet
black looks, now enthusiastically experimenting with all shades of red. This new craze has
left many people wondering, “Why has red hair reclaimed a spot in high fashion?”

To answer this question, we first have to look back to times when red locks were all the rage.
When was this? In the 70’s, when being a flower child and rocking at live festivals was what
all the cool kids were doing. Red hair was accepted during these times for its introverted
beauty; natural red heads were often scoffed prior years for physical attributes such as pale
skin and freckles. However, when the 70’s hit, the unique red head look was considered
natural and beautiful.

In recent years, trending fashion has gone from futuristic and sleek (90’s, early 2000’s) to a
complete 180, with reclamation for hippie girl chic fashions and a new love for the bohemian
look. Only in the last couple of years years has this phenomenon moved even further to an
obsession for red hair, thanks to a couple factors that greatly influenced pop culture and
fashion. One defining factor was how prevalent fire truck red hair was seen in mainstream
rock bands such as Paramore, and the other was how intensely red hair was being glorified in
fashion shows and advertisements by popular luxury designers.

• A Guide to Shades
As summer has slowly descended upon us in 2012, so has the new love for red hair. In this
age, the look is beautiful on just about any skin tone; however, it’s important to match the
correct shade of dye with your complexion in order to get the exact results you’re looking for.

For girls with a very fair skin complexion, a very light strawberry red blond mix is perfect.
Depending on your style preferences, you can also go bright or dark red to create a super
contrasting look. Just remember, this look will be very intense and grab lots of attention.

For those with olive skin, auburn is the best and most natural appearing options. It’s often
difficult for those with olive skin to pull off red hair, but this shade is the one exception that
looks absolutely gorgeous.

Girls with a very dark complexion can practically pull off any shade of red. Picking a darker
dye will appear more natural, as lighter dyes will create an intense contrast with the skin,
making your dye job very noticeable and unnatural looking.

• What Looks Best
When choosing outfits and looks for your new (or natural!) red locks, it’s important to match
styles with your shade to create the ultimate fashion statement and have onlookers jealous.

If you’re one of those courageous fair skinned girls that decided to go with a dark shade of
red in order to contrast, try experimenting with “scene” styles. Scene styles are a combination
of hip-hop and 80’s neon inspired clothing. Shops such as Forever21 and Hottopic have a
massive array of clothing that can help you create this bright and brave look.

If you chose a more laid-back shade of red, consider embracing the recent bohemian chic
craze. This look pays complete tribute to 70’s girly fashions, and is currently available in
practically any shop you can think of that offers designer clothing. The mixture of red locks
and a modern spin on groovy girl style will have you looking astounding and stylistically
relevant.

GHD Style and Protect

Last week a box of goodies turned up on my doorstep containing some luxurious looking Style and Protect hair products from GHD…masters of all things straighteners!

Normally I do all reviews for my blog myself, but this time I asked my Mum if she’d like to do the honours (she is far more hair savvy than I, and frankly, needed a little cheering up). I did snag the hairbrush for myself and it proved perfect for my super thick hair. The box set also came with some seperating clips which are really handy when attempting to sort out my layers!

Anyway, this review is really about the products, so without further ado…

“The GHD Straight and Smooth Spray is a fabulous spray and works brilliantly, the only downside is that unless you wash your hair everyday it does tend to make your hair a bit “crispy” to touch! The smell is gorgeous and if I washed my hair daily I would use this product all the time.
The final shine spray leaves your hair soft and shiny with a great scent, ideal for inbetween washes”.

This set retails at £39 and comes in an elegant looking gift box. It may be pricey for a hair care set, but when you look at what hair products cost from Boots and Superdrug these days, it’s actually not that bad. GHD lovers will love this and it would make a fantastic gift, too!

Available here.

Have you tried any of the hair care range?

I’m really enjoying doing some more non-outfit posts, I’ll probably make it a more regular thing!
