Apart from chocolates and flowers both men and women like to get a special gift from their partner on Valentine’s day; therefore it is must for you to spend some and make efforts to locate just the right gift that will floor your sweetheart. Whether you spend your money on a day trip for you both to enjoy, or perhaps experiment with pheromones perfume from websites like True Pheromones to heighten your attraction to one another, it’s important to treat your loved one! Here are some gift ideas for him and her.

Gifts for her

Women love jewelry and would never mind adding another bottle of perfume to their collection. Apart from gifting her a box of Godiva or those handmade chocolates, you can gift her a Foot Massager for a great foot spa. You can buy her unique earrings, anecklace or bracelet from places like ETSY, and if she is fond of cooking, how about gifting her a recipe book of her favorite celebrity chef? For beauty addicts you can shop for a set of lipstick shades perfect for Valentine’s Day (make them kiss proof!) or for those girls who are fond of reading a set of books from her favorite authors along with a scented candle will go down a treat for the perfect relaxation session; nothing could be better than combining your favorite books with your favorite scents! Another great idea is to create a custom photo book or a collage of your favorite memories together- watch her face light up as she looks at the gift!

Gifts for him

Shopping for Valentine’s gift for men can be difficult, after all it seems that the guys want nothing and it is not easy to pick a sentimental gift for your man with specific tastes. Well, all you need is some inspiration and guidance to set you going in the right direction. How about getting him the latest versions of his favorite computer game? If he loves art, then look for object d’Art that will always remain with him (try notonthehighstreet for some unique pieces). Another good option is a set of wireless earbuds that make for an enjoyable commute or run. Hair or beard oil, shower cream, good fragrance or a high-quality razor set always go well with men who likes to look good, and a decent quality watch is another option. If the guy is very choosy about what he drinks, buy him a cocktail case where he can store his choice collection. You can also shop for concert tickets for his favorite band, and this is a surefire way to win his heart. Add to the fun by going to the concert together. More joint gifts include a couple’s massage or spa day and enjoy the romantic gift together.

What are some of your top suggestions for Valentine’s Day gifting? Leave them in the comments below as I struggle to shop for Bob!

Christmas Treats from Niederegger

Christmas is approaching at an alarming pace- one minute it was July and I was on a beach in The Algarve, the next my brain is being forced in to thinking about all things festive, and more so than ever this year as Bob and I are going to be hosting Christmas for the first time.

I had a burst of inspiration the other weekend and managed to get most of my shopping done, but I still need to pick up some bits for the harder to buy for folk in my life and I’ve spent rather a lot of my spare time (of which there is not a lot of) browsing for ideas.
Luckily, by nature of being a blogger I also get alerted to great gift ideas, such as this gorgeously festive hamper of products from the masters of marzipan, Niederegger.

Hamper c/o Niederegger via Chocolates Direct

Marzipan is one of those confectionaries that divides opinion; the marmite of the sweet world I suppose. I for one love it, especially when it comes coated in chocolate- I remember one trip to Austria where I survived solely on dark chocolate and marzipan for days!

This festive hamper of treats contains both classic Niederegger products and seasonal treats. £25 gets you:

1 x 110g classic dark chocolate covered marzipan bar (my favourite!)
1 x 100g assorted mini marzipan loaves (espresso, pistachio, pineapple and orange all coated in dark chocolate)
2 x 40g dark chocolate coated sticks- selected from 3 flavours (I got cherry and walnut, both of which I highly recommend)
1 x 125g bar of flavour of the year (which is apple strudel in case you were wondering)
1 x 100g dark chocolate covered santa (which I am not sharing with anyone)

The hamper comes gorgeously packaged making it an instant gift in the making, or ideal for leaving out for guests to pick from over the festive period- this is the intention with what is left of mine, but based on my near-constant raiding of it (little and often is the key with marzipan I find) there won’t be any left!

What festive foods have caught your eye this year, and are you a marzipan lover, or a hater?

Beauty Advent Calendars from Chemist 4 U (and discount!)

I’ve never actually had a beauty advent calendar before. I’ve been intrigued by them ever since they popped on to the scene a few years back, but I’ve never had the spare money to drop on one so have settled for chocolate each year instead (apart from last year when Bob bought me a Lego one, which was pretty much the greatest thing ever).

I was recently contacted by the team at Chemist 4 U who are stocking beauty advent calendars this year. They wanted to know if I would be interested in reviewing a couple, and of course, in the interest of research, I said yes.

I wasn’t really sure what the etiquette was on posting advent calendar reviews was- spoilers vs. no spoilers was my main concern. In the end I’ve opted for a no spoilers approach, but will share my thoughts on the contents below to help influence your decision making.

The first calendar I picked was the Morris & Co. Pamper Advent Calendar*. Chemist 4 U are selling this for £32.99 (it’s available on John Lewis for £40, just to give you an idea). This calendar contains 24 days of pampering treats which range from shower gels to bath salts, in a range of fragrances. I broke in to this calendar almost straight away as it smelt so good through the packaging! Since moving, I don’t have a bath so have passed on the bath salts and mini bath bombs the calendar contains, but the products I have tried have been lovely- although highly fragranced so approach with caution if you, or the recipient has sensitive skin.

Since Bob and I are now living together I thought it would be fun to get a his ‘n hers advent calendar which we could open together. The Ladies Fragrance Advent Calendar* and Men’s Fragrance Advent Calendar* cost a respectable £14.99 each, with an RRP of £49.99 each. Whilst you won’t find big name brands in these calendars, you still get 24 difference fragrances in perfect handbag (or pocket) sized bottles. I feel like perfume is a very personal thing so this isn’t going to bit a hit with everyone and some of the scents weren’t to our taste, but we found some hidden gems and the combined haul will keep us going, probably until next Christmas rocks around!

To celebrate this year’s stock of Advent Calendars the guys at Chemist 4 U are offering 20% off all calendar purchases. Simply add the code ADVENT20 when you check out and get even more of a bargain!

Father’s Day Inspiration- Folio Society

There’s nothing I love more than settling down with a good book and that’s definitely a trait I picked up from my Dad (and Grandad) so I was instantly drawn to The Folio Society when it came to browsing for an inspired gift.

Even if your Dad has already read the title you choose you can guarantee it will still be a well received and much appreciated gift. The Folio Society, founded in 1947, specialises in exquisitely crafted editions of some of the world’s finest literature; from cult classics to gripping non-fiction.

There’s a whole section of their website dedicated to Father’s Day, although that really is only a drop in the ocean of the titles they have available.

Prices of the books vary greatly, but you can pick up a beautifully bound of “A Brief History of Time” by Stephen Hawking for under £30, or for the James Bond fan, “GoldFinger” by Ian Fleming for £34.95

As an example of what you can expect, I was very kindly sent a copy of “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. It really is the most beautiful edition of the book with incredible illustrations and and wonderful lay-out. I’m in two minds over whether to share this with my Dad or keep it for myself, I haven’t yet read the book but it’s been on my list for some time.

I do wish I hadn’t sorted out my Dad’s gift prior to discovering The Folio Society as there are so many books I know he’d love on there…and as for me, well, I’m in literary heaven! I know exactly where I’m heading next time I need to buy a gift; not just for my father but for all of the other book lovers in my life, and my new personal ambition is a book shelf stacked full of books that are as compelling to the eye as they are to the imagination.

What’s your all time favourite book?

Father’s Day Inspiration from Patria

With less than two weeks to go until Father’s Day I thought it was about time I shared some inspiration and ideas to help you find the perfect, unique gift. Every year I seem to put all my focus on the Mother’s Day whilst dear old Dad gets overlooked…this year I managed to completely bypass a gift guide for Mum, but I have managed to find some gems for the Dad’s out there which I’ll be sharing on the blog this week.

First up on the gift guide front we have some luxury menswear from luxury British brand Patria.

“Patria was founded to support the British armed forces community. It gives 10% of its profits to the three leading single charities benefitting veterans: ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, The Royal Marines Royal Navy Charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Richard Thackray, founder of Patria, said: “We and our customers think we’ve built the UK’s most durable sweatshirt and t-shirt. A hundred per cent British made, Patria uses the best materials and best construction.
“The result for both our sweatshirt and t-shirt is the softest, most luxurious and best made product available anywhere today. It’s fitting we’ve launched a new range of heirloom pieces for Father’s Day, celebrating the dedication and commitment of dads’ everywhere.” “

The t-shirt costs £40 and the sweatshirt costs £99- a little on the pricey side for some but 10% of profits go to the three leading charities benefitting veterans: ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, The Royal Marines Royal Navy Charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Both pieces feature Patria’s logo Jack- an Airedale Terrier famed for crawling two miles through no-man’s land to deliver a message that rescued a battalion during World War One, and his pup, the sweatshirt and t-shirt are designed and manufactured in the UK using only the best fabrics.

Available now from the Patria website.
