Royal Mail get Fashionable?

I can’t say I ever imagined writing a blog post about stamps; but then Royal Mail go and do something like this and suddenly it makes perfect sense! For years I’ve mocked my Dad’s stamp collecting hobby…now I’m considering starting one myself!

ROYAL MAIL CELEBRATES GREAT BRITISH FASHION

Some of Britain’s most renowned fashion designers are being featured on ten new first class stamps. The stamps will be available from all Post Office Branches on 15th May

Hardy Amies, Norman Hartnell, Granny Takes a Trip, Ossie Clark, Tommy Nutter, Jean Muir, Zandra Rhodes, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and Alexander McQueen share a fashion showcase of stamps. The images featured on the stamps were shot by renowned fashion photographer, Sølve Sundsbø
Celebration of fashion in the UK dates back as far as 1693 with the publication of ‘Ladies Mercury’, the first ever specialist fashion magazine.

Will you be picking up some of these? I’ve only posted my four favourites; the others are just as fabulous!

everyday ethical with Komodo

A few weeks ago a brand called Komodo got in touch with me to explain a bit more about what they do and how they do it. I recognised the name as one I’d heard of maybe a year or more ago, but it had kind of drifted off my radar, so I was keen to find out how they had progressed; and indeed, they have progressed.

Komodo uses the most ethical and eco-friendly materials at affordable prices, showing that style and an ethical conscience can go hand-in-hand. They offered to loan me some samples so I could get a proper feel for the brand myself, and have a go at styling them up…except when they arrived, I decided I didn’t want to style them per say; I mean, I’m not a stylist, just a twenty-something year old girl who lives a normal life and wants her clothes to fit in with that. Hence the outfits above…really, nothing different to what I’d usually wear, except this time the clothes are ethical and not my own.

The shift dress was a dream, beautifully cut and not a hint of stiffness in the fabric (something I used to expect from ethical fashions)…and the t-shirt, well, I’m not a t-shirt girl, you know that…but teamed with ASOS velvet shorts just to test out the fit, I was impressed at the quality and attention to detail; not to mention the on trend tribal print; jeans and a tee girls, this one is for you!

The winner here, for me (and sadly the worst photographed) is the trousers. It’s well documented by now, my saga with trousers and it is with a very heavy heart that I’ll be sending these back. I’ve never looked much further than New Look or Topshop for trousers, believing that only well known retailers would cater for my needs…and certainly never thought of looking somewhere that only sold ethical fashions. Komodo I owe you an apology, and a pat on the back…from the super comfy waistband to the exquisite cut of this trousers, as soon as I have the pennies to afford the (not un-affordable) price tag of £65 these will be mine.

A bit of a waffle filled and in-eloquent post from me. But what I am trying to say is check out Komodo , cast aside any preconceived notions of hessian sacks and tie-dye and be prepared to be impressed.

Chill in the Air

After what has felt like an exceptionally mild month, this week there has been a distinct chill in the air and suddenly my standard coat, gloves, scarf and hat don’t feel adequate; if I’m this cold NOW, what will I do when the snow and ice comes?

I used to hate faux fur, really, really hate it but over the last couple of years my tastes have once again changed, and this week I have serious cravings for all things cosy and strokeable.

The coats cost £65 and come from gigi vintage and the freedom hoods are from faux uk starting at £79.99…pricey, but they do look exceptionally handy for keeping both head AND neck warm!

Your thoughts on faux? Or fur in general…opening a whole can of worms here, I know.

I’m still without laptop; hopefully tomorrow or Saturday, but I really couldn’t wait any longer to do this post.

Long lusted after by myself, Vero Moda are opening their London Flagship store on Thursday November 4th, I’m gutted I can’t attend myself, but get yourself down to 179 Oxford street to check out the absolutely stunning Autumn/Winter collections and a chance to win a free outfit.

I cannot heap enough praise on Vero Moda and their exquisitely designed clothes which offer impeccable details at affordable prices. I’ve spent the last week drooling over their A/W look book and have chosen my two favourite looks to share with you as an example of what’s in store.

You can find out more about Vero Moda by becoming a fan on facebook and following them on twitter
Not only will you be kept fully up to date, but there is also a chance of winning some fantastic prizes.

I’ve called this post Part One because the team at Vero Moda were kind enough to send a couple of pieces my way,
and those will be featured asap, or, as soon as I have my laptop back.
For now, I urge you to check out their website and fall in love like myself, and so many others already have.

((apologies for the less than stellar post, this has taken me since yesterday to get posted!))
