Summer in the City with Bristol’s Shopping Quarter

Who doesn’t love even more of an excuse to shop? This Summer Britsol’s Shopping Quarter is giving us just that with a whole month of discounts, prizes and more…
The event kicked off yesterday and will run through until the 6th August. The events are top secret until the day but I’ve heard on the grapevine that they will include free samples, money off and fantastic money vouchers from the both local favourites like Koolmami & Pepenero as well as national giants like Boots & Debenhams.

To get each daily deal and find out more about the event check out the Summer in the City facebook page.
Let me know if you take advantage of any of these fantastic deals. I’m going to be making at least one trip in.

Bristol St

Top: A-wear many moons ago
Boots: Georgia Rose c/o Sarenza
(yes I am wearing tights, I’m not that mad)
As a blogger from somewhere that isn’t London or one of the other seemingly “bigger” cities it’s always a bonus to find a shop you loved based in the town you live. Bristol St Vintage is one of these (clue is in the name as to where they are based!) We’ve followed each other on twitter for a while now and when I expressed major love for this crushed velvet midi skirt and the wonderful Linda offered to send it to me I was more than happy to oblige and share my kept quiet for too long love of this shop.

As many of you won’t be aware of Bristol St I’m going to share a little bit of blurb from the website to help you out…

Vintage clothing has experienced a major up surge in popularity in recent years. But why?
Well, here at Bristol St Vintage we believe in the importance of vintage clothing as it is not only on trend
(as fashion trends run in cycles) but environmentally friendly (as it cuts out re-production). As we are
currently overloaded with ‘fast fashion‘, vintage is likely to become a staple in every person’s wardrobe.
Clothing produced before recent times, were produced to last longer than the ‘fast fashion’ that is made
and sold on the high street today. Therefore you will often find items that are 50-60 years old
 and still in impeccable condition.
We have been collecting pieces of  vintage clothing, accessories and home wares over the past few years
but had a major search over the past few months in the run up to the shop opening. We currently source
our items from charity shops, car boot sales, private sellers, ebay and suppliers but absolutely every item
has been hand-picked to fit the Bristol St Vintage Style.
The shop is primarily website based but you’ll find them pop up at local events such as the harbourside market (which I am shamefully yet to visit) among others. The online store sells everything from beautiful one of a kind dresses through to vintage gifts for the home at prices no-one could begrudge paying- so often is vintage jacked up in price that I walk away in disgust…so not the case with Linda!

To learn more, have a browse or make a purchase visit the website here, you can also like on facebook or follow on twitter to stay full up to date.

I am so in love with my skirt although apart from this slightly nautical look I’m currently struggling with styling it…I have a serious lack of tops in my wardrobe, I’m pretty sure that’s a sign telling me to buy something to go with it! What do you think of Bristol St and vintage in general? Expect to see more from Linda on the blog…

Bristol meets Boux

Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend the opening of Boux Avenue’s latest store in Cabot Circus, Bristol. I remember when Boux, owned by Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis first launched as online only and wishing they had an actual shop (buying lingerie online is somewhat of a challenge for me) and slowly but surely that wish came true with shops popping up across the country. I literally did a jump for joy when I heard Bristol was getting a piece of the action!
Along with a few of my favourite ladies, at 10:30am we were treated to a press preview ahead of the public…did  Boux live up to the hype?

In a word…YES.
In several words…a well thought lay out with friendly approachable staff and amazing changing rooms (with a choice of three different lightings). A concierge service and a wide range of sizes (from 30A through to 40H in all styles) make Boux Avenue stand out from the rest and all lingerie, pajamas and gifts/accessories have an affordable price point. One thing I especially liked was that the underwear was set out on display for show but instead of fighting with rails, the stock was housed in drawers organised by size, so much easier to get at the goods! We were gifted with a generous gift bag which included a voucher, I shall be heading back to Boux asap to get properly measured and stock up on brilliant bras. I’ve put off being measured for years, but the friendly atmosphere instantly put me at ease and less apprehensive about this up close and personal experience.

I also had the pleasure of a short interview with Theo Paphitis who is really rather lovely and not as scary as his TV persona would have you think. I won’t be sharing that interview on the blog though…on hearing it back I realised I asked nothing of any worth and generally sounded like an idiot!

I think Boux Avenue caters for all tastes, shapes sizes and occasions and would urge everyone to familiarize themselves FAST.

Thank you to Boux Avenue for having us, and big HELLO to all the fabulous blogging ladies I met today.

Outfit: New Look dress, Mexx velvet blazer, Kate Kanzier flats. Really kind of frumpy but hey-ho!

Are you already familiar to Boux? What are your thoughts? Have you visited a store lately, what have your experiences been?

Colour from Cabot

This weekend I’m blogging live from the Cabot Circus Fashion Tour. Fabulous and fun with hourly runway shows and discounts galore it’s great to see Bristol recognised as a fashionable city at last. This is the first fashion event I’ve been to in Bristol and I am sincerely hoping it won’t be my last.

My favourite looks and trends from the show I caught included

Oasis- 60s inspired monochrome, from sleek office looks to stand out night wear.

(shoes from New Look)

Dorothy Perkins- DPs is HOT on colour block this season, jewel colours reigned supreme with options to keep it subtle or go all out clashing.

Zara- Citrus Noir was the theme here. Bold shades of yellow, ranging from mustard to lemon paired with black to make an impact. I never in a million years thought of myself as someone who would lust over yellow but after seeing this show I am well and truly converted!

(shoes from New Look)

Handily everything seen in the shows is labelled up in the shops ready for instant purchasing. Without discounts in many of the stores, and excellent show styling I sense my bank account might be in trouble.
