SS16 trends for eyebrows and my brow kit

Over recent years eyebrows have become quite the beauty statement. From bleached out “barely there” brows to the big and bold Cara Delevigne approach to face adornment it’s hard to ignore that these days not only do your clothes need to be on trend, your eyebrows also need to be on point.

I was recently sent the Tweezerman SS16 brow style statement and was delighted to read that lazy girl grooming is in. I’ll be the first to admit I’m quite low maintenance when it comes to my eyebrows- a few simple products and a quick tweeze of the stray hairs does me fine.

I’m all for keeping things natural so finding out that I’m accidentally on trend prompted me to share my top products for my every day grooming. If anyone has anything they think I should be adding to my “brow army” do feel free to let me know in the comments…

Tweezers c/o Tweezerman | MUA eye brow kit | Real Techniques eyeliner brush | L.A.B.2 grooming brush | Natural Collection clear mascara

And that’s that! I simply tweeze out any stray hairs, fill in the gaps with the palette and set with clear mascara and give them a brush up.

Maybe I’ll become a bit more high maintenance but I doubt it- there’s a trend floating around for bleached out or pastel brows but it’s not one I can see myself embracing, how about you?

Gentle Powder Love from treaclemoon

I’m pretty certain I’m not alone at all in absolutely loving the scent of baby powder. I find it one of the ultimate comfort scents and at this time of year a long, hot bath with something that smells incredible is just what the doctor ordered to put a smile back on my face.

For this reason I was incredibly excited to find out about the launch of Gentle Powder Love from treaclemoon* (£2.99/500ml from Tesco). Already a favourite shower product brand of mine I just knew that this new arrival was going to be heavenly…

This is one luxuriously thick and creamy product that manages to both cleanse and soften the skin whilst enveloping you in the most amazing smell. It instantly transports me back to happy childhood days and is the perfect precursor to spending an evening on the sofa snuggled up tight in a blanket. Even the description on the bottle is dreamy…

“…The scent led her to a gentle place…a dreamy carousel ride on painted marshmallows and rainbow coloured elephants. Life was cute…”

Sometimes being transported back to your childhood happy place is just the ticket, if you too are a fan of the baby powder scent then this product is an absolute must buy next time you’re picking up your bread and milk (and milkybar buttons, ssh!) in Tesco.

New Year Hair Army with #BootsBeautyBox*

I have mentioned many a time on the blog that I am more than a little bit clueless when it comes to styling my hair. The biggest decision I tend to make when it comes to style is whether to spend time trying to tame it with straighteners or let it dry naturally and embrace the madness. It’s not that I’m not bothered about how my hair looks, far from it in fact! I’ve just never found the right array of hair styling products that help me achieve a look that lasts more than five minutes.
Boots.com obviously knew of my troubles as before Christmas they sent over their #BootsBeautyBox which was packed full of their favourite styling products to help me look half decent over the festive period.

Inside the box of tricks included lots of new to me products such as the Bastiste Stylist Oompy My Locks XXL volume spray for creating and caring for a big “do”. There was also a bottle of L’oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil , TRESemme Make Waves Creation Hairspray, Umberto Giannini Curl Friends scrunching jelly, Toni and Guy Creative Style Spray Wax and finally (what a box eh?) L’Oreal Elnett Precious Oil Hairspray.

I did let Mum pick out and keep a couple of products from the box. She is a bit of a volume fiend and has been delighted with both the Batiste XXL volume spray and the Elnett Precious Oil Hairspray- a nourishing upgrade to her long time favourite.

With what was left I decided to create a quick and easy tousled look for Christmas Day. I used a good spritz of the creature style spray wax all over before using my straightener to create loose waves. I set the style with the Tresemme make waves spray and was pleased to see my style last through from present opening, a post dinner nap all the way through to eventually calling it a day.

Obviously this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to these product’s potential so do let me know how you’d use each one and if you’ve given any of them a go before…I’ll post results of any further experimentation on here and my social media (assuming I have any degree of success that is.)

Current Beauty Loves

I’m going through a phase of picking up new makeup at the moment, it goes like that…I’ll go months without getting tempted and sticking determinedly to using up my rather vast collection and then BAM, I’ll buy one item that I actually need and it triggers off a chain reaction of picking out new products. Luckily (and rarely) I’ve been happy with everything I’ve bought lately, there’s nothing worse than wasting money on a disappointing product, right?
Coming soon from the team at I Love…* are these gorgeous tinted moisture balms which have the most adorable packaging ever! I believe these are being launched any time now these are an absolute bargain at £2.99 and come in three fantastic flavours- cherry, grape and strawberry. Not unlike the Clinique Chubby Sticks and giving the colour of a lipstick with the feel of a balm these are a must have for any lip product lover and cost less than a festive latte.
Another lip product I’ve been loving is the new lip paints from Barry M. I already had a nude and berry shade of these in my collection but couldn’t resist adding shade “167” in to the mix- a super moisturising matte finish pink. These go on like a dream and aren’t at all drying on the lips, perfect against the Winter elements.
The one product I actually NEEDED to buy was a new brow kit, I don’t get on with gels for some reason and always lose pencils so a palette is my best option. I’d so far been loyal to my Oriflame set but after it’s demise I decided to branch out and try something new and opted for the MUA Eye Brow Kit for the bargain price of £3.50. So far I’m really impressed with this, the darker and lighter shades blend together to create something just right for my colouring and the highlighter and wax are lovely finishing touches. You really can’t go wrong at this price and I think this has just become my new go-to for groomed brows.
I was delighted to see that my local Superdrug has FINALLY started to stock Makeup Revolution…only a year or so late to the game eh? I’ve tried quite a few products from the brand since they launched and have been really very impressed. As there was a 3 for 2 offer on all cosmetics I felt I could justify picking up the Pro Looks Big Love palette for £6 (meaning the brow kit was free) and in the two weeks since I bought it there hasn’t been a day where I haven’t used at least one of the shadows. I love how the palette is divided in to three seperate looks, although of course you can mix it up a bit too! The colours are all really wearable and perfect for day to night beauty or for a break away from home.
