The Day to Night Dress with George at Asda #Georgeousdresses

Any time I go on holiday I like to pack a couple of dresses that will take me from beach to bar with a simple change of accessories, so when George at Asda asked me to pick out my favourite dress and style it in to a couple of outfits I already had a little experience under my belt.
I picked out this maxi dress as my chosen piece as I fell in love with the elegant neckline and neutral colour palette. I was also able to pick out a few accessories to help me along the way and with them I’ve created one daytime look and one evening look to share.
Daytime: By adding flat shoes and a casual bag to the dress it dressed it down enough to wear for a day spent exploring on foot. These sandals are a bargain at £8 and I get on really, really well with George at Asda’s shoes. I couldn’t resist sneaking in a pair of sunglasses too, at a mere fiver for this cool pink pair it would have been rude not to!
Evening: A smart clutch bag and some embellished heels transform this dress in to something suitable for a special night out. Bonus points to the shoes for being comfortable enough to walk miles in, and another bargain at £16!
What do you think of the looks that I created? Are you a fan of day-to-night dresses too? George at Asda have such an amazing selection of well, everything right now. Although I was invited by the brand to do this post and sent items for the purpose (all items featured in this post are c/o George at Asda) I can hand on heart say it’s one of the first places I head when I am in needed of some good value new additions to my wardrobe, I’m suckered in every time I do an Asda food shop!

A Rainbow of Rings with Gemporia

I love jewellery (incase you missed the dedicated section of the blog) and I’m partial to a spot of colour so I though, hey, what better way to introduce new discovery Gemporia than with an entire rainbow of their glorious rings?
Red: I’m loving this Madagascan Ruby white gold ring, £239. Rubies were my Nan’s favourite and will always hold a special place in my heart so this beauty is worth splashing the cash on in my opinion.
Orange: I wasn’t aware an orange stone existed until I came across this Anahi Ametrine sterling silver ring, £84. I just love this subtle shade, perfect for showing off a summer outfit.
Yellow: I love the sunshine shade of this Amarelo Beryl sterling silver ring. At £48 it’s a fairly inexpensive way to add a unique but pretty twist to any outfit.
Green: Think green and you automatically think Emerald right? I know that’s what I did until I found this Tucson Green Flourite Ring for £46- saving you some pennies there! You can thank me later.
Blue: I LOVE the finish on this Blue Crackled Quartz ring. It has something a little bit mystic about it and the shade is so vibrant.
Indigo: Ok so it isn’t truly indigo but I wanted to make sure that this Rio Grande Amethyst ring got a feature as I think it’s stunning- I’ve always had a soft spot for Amethyst.
Violet: One for the pastel lovers (and another Amethyst has snuck it’s way in!) How pretty is this Rose De France ring? I think this is one of my favourite pieces I’ve featured in this post and quite affordable too at £36 (damn you spending ban!)
Wear the whole Rainbow! Can’t decide which colour you love best? Have it all with this Mercury Mystic Topaz number. It’s a shame they don’t have my size in stock (I’m one of them girls cursed with sausage fingers) as I’d be snapping this up right now!
Which one of these rings is your favourite? Spotted any other pieces you love on the Gemporia website?

Golden Eye

I appear to be pretty obsessed with mini skirts at the moment, I’ve all but given up on jeans and don’t own any shorts worth shouting about and skirts just seem like an easy solution for a casual “off duty” look. I’ve fallen out love with a lot of my wardrobe lately so seem to be reaching for the same key pieces time and time again, looking for little ways to make them seem different every time. This should be a prompt for yet another wardrobe cull, but no matter how much I get rid of I still feel like my clothes aren’t cool enough or pull off an outfit with any panache. For someone who supposedly has a fashion blog, I feel inadequate among the flock of effortlessly stylish ladies in the blogging world.

Top: H&M | Skirt: ASOS (get it here) | Sunglasses c/o Polette | Shoes: Primark (quite recently)

You’d think that after six years of regular blogging I’d feel at ease in front of a camera right now but no, it’s not the case! I feel so awkward as soon as the lens cap comes off and I never know what to do with myself hence the often characterless pictures that end up on here.

These sunglasses from Polette are a case in point. Such a fashion forward pair of shades deserve something a little more edgy than I gave them here but still, I do feel pretty cool when I wear them so that’s something. It took me ages to decide which pair to go for, the selection on the site is huge and I had to try really hard not to go for something more subtle although this pair did catch my eye- anything but discreet!

I didn’t intend for this to be such a self depreciating post, life has been pretty strange lately and it’s left me with a little less confidence in myself and my capabilities and in a way it feels good to get some insecurities out there.

I know I’ll never be one of the top bloggers, nor one of those for whom posing in a busy street becomes good fun, but as long as I’m enjoying what I’m doing and I still have the friends I’ve made through this blog then I have no intention of stopping, crisis of confidence or not.

Any tips for feeling more at ease in front of the camera?

Which Polette sunglasses would you go for? The prices are crazy good and delivery was pretty swift given that they come from overseas.

Guest Post: My favourite Cakes

Hey everyone! My name is Georgina and I am guest posting here on Lauras blog today! I blog over at www.georginadoes.co.uk if you fancy checking it out!

When I was thinking what to guest post about, it was about 3pm during an afternoon lull and all I could think about was cake. So I decided to write this post on my favourite cakes. I got really into it and the whole afternoon flew by. I love cake.

When I was younger, it was chocolate, chocolate and chocolate. I wouldn’t even bother trying any other flavoured cake because I knew I wouldn’t like it but as I’ve gotten older I am much more adventurous and am the first to try an interesting new flavour – and usually am trying to convince Andrew to taste it too. He’s still majorly into his chocolate fudge cakes, but for me, a heavy chocolate cake now just gives me indigestion and acid reflux. Not what I want with my afternoon treat.
Victoria Sponge

When it comes to classic cakes – I love a Victoria sponge. I love the fluffy homemade version with thick cream and jam and I love to eat that sort of cake outside in a garden or a tea room – It’s light, fruity, and quintessentially British. The other way I really enjoy a Victoria sponge is when it comes in the form of a kid’s birthday cake. I love the thick plastic white icing and the dense cream and jam in these!

French Fancies

Just before I got to work on coming up with the title for the post. I came across Mr Kipling on twitter when my love for French fancies all came rushing back to me! As I said before, as a kid, I just assumed I would only like the chocolate one so that’s all I ate but since the lemon one is usually the only one left on the plate and I had to eat it because it was the only one left, I have realised that I spend my whole childhood missing out on the best flavour. I’m growing up!

Cupcakes

I never went through that weird cupcake phase that a lot of bloggers did – of course I love a cupcake now and then but only from the Hummingbird Bakery (or Lolas if there isn’t a HB nearby.) My fave is the red velvet from Hummingbird and I also quite like it as a slice of red velvet from their amazing range of cakes! As I’m sure with most people the first time I visited the store, I went straight in for a slice of their super amazing looking rainbow cake but for some reason the white unassuming icing is actually bubble gum flavoured which I wasn’t a fan of.

When it comes to my other favourites, I love an Angel cake, Tottenham cakes mmmm and Jaffa cakes of course! Do they count? I certainly eat enough of them.
