Girl in Black

Dress c/o Damsel in a Dress, Laura Ashley necklace, Tights- a gift, Shoes- Shellys c/o Sarenza

Some days just call for something a bit more sophisticated, for no reason I woke up Thursday morning with a desire to dress smarter for work. Perhaps because until my foot is better I am banished to the office, I don’t know, but this dress satisfied the craving quite nicely.

How is your weekend going? Despite the super wet weather it’s been a good ‘un here spent with my favourite people doing my favourite things- coffee drinking, shopping and watching Saturday night TV. I can hardly believe I am saying this, but I would quite like Rylan to win X factor, he is just so entertaining.

What have you been up to? Who do you think should win?

What’s Your #partypose?

I can’t resist a challenge so when boohoo.com got in touch announcing their #partypose competition I thought I’d give it a go.

The mission was to create a party outfit for under £100, which with boohoo’s fab prices wasn’t that difficult to be honest; the real challenge is competing against other, more stylish bloggers! I never like to spend a lot on outfits I’m only going to wear once or twice so any party shopping trip tends to have a strict (and often lower than £100) budget.

My outfit came in at a total of £85. I chose this sequin dress from boohoo’s new boutique range purely because I can’t resist a good sequin frock. At £35 this was on the higher end of the price scale for boohoo’s dresses but I love it and consider it to be a bargain as it has potential to be styled in several ways so cost per wear is low.

With such a statement dress I wanted to keep the rest of the outfit fun but fairly simple. The high neckline meant I didn’t want to add a necklace in so I went for this bargain cuff bracelet at a mere £5, again seeing it as something that can be worn in several different ways.
Shoe wise, I always think you can’t go wrong with a wedge for a party, you get the striking added height but also the comfort and support that a wedge brings. Going for plain black means they can’t clash with the dress and can be worn again and again for day and night. I thought such a bold dress needed a strong shoe to carry it whether you opted for bare legs or tights (I’m always one for tights at a party, nothing attractive about frost bite!)
I was a bit clueless when it came to a bag, I’m hopeless at travelling light and usually take a large bag with me, or go to the other extreme and just not bother. I did think this sparkly clutch was pretty though and at £15 you can’t really knock it!

What do you think of my party look? Take a look at boohoo.com to get your own party inspiration and if you want to enter the competition yourself may I please direct you here.

Let me know if you enter, I love having a nosy at what other people come up with!

owl about

Gotta love Mae getting in on the photo action once again! This isn’t really a recent outfit, gone are the days where I post what I wear on the day I wear it! This navy owl print dress by Influence at New Look was worn for Sunday’s family pub lunch (which was delicious by the way) along with black tights from Tesco and my favourite/most hated boots from Sarenza.
I do love a good family gathering, but now they bring a sense of sadness too. My Nan loved a get together and she would have been in her element on Sunday. I don’t think I was alone in secretly raising my glass to her.

This dress is probably one of my favourite buys this year, again with a link to my Nan who was besotted with owls; when we were searching for gifts for her we couldn’t find anything with an owl on, now you can’t look anywhere without seeing one. It’s not a bad thing, sometimes it catches you unaware but mostly it’s like a little reminder that she is always there, and always watching.

Well,
here we are on Friday again (Crunchie craving and all!)
What are your weekend plans?
