Hung out to Dry

Fellow kitchen geeks, this post is for you! Last week I was contacted by All Tea Towels inviting me to take a look at their site and offering me two tea towels of my choice.

The name is self explanatory; this is a shop that specialises in tea towels, from the traditional to the not so traditional. I love spending time in the kitchen and spend far too long fawning over gadgets and accessories to brighten it up, so for me, this post was always going to be a winner!

I chose the Tunnock’s Tea Cake Wrapper towel and the Caramel Wafer Biscuit one too. I grew up on these treats and still enjoy them a lot (Tea Cakes are my guilty pleasure!) I love the bold red and cream look of these towels and they feel really high quality…I’m actually pretty excited to do some washing up! The towels came really quickly and beautifully packaged which always earns bonus points for an online store.

Take a look at All Tea Towels for yourself,
which one would you pick? Next on my list is this one!

Sarenza Shoe of the Week

When I think of the brand “Buffalo” I think of the 1990s and the Spice Girls with their platform trainers. As hard as I try I can’t shake that image, but browsing Sarenza last night for my shoe of the week, I think I might have found a new association!

Meet Maryl, £116.90. Glitter ball heaven…
I shouldn’t be, but I am head over heels smitten with these boots, which also come in gorgeous gold. In fact, Buffalo now seems to specialise in sparkles as there are also some rather amazing court shoes too (although I’ve seen blogger Please May I knock up a very similar DIY pair on her blog!

Do you have a certain type of shoe you associate with specific brands? Do share!

And ‘fess up, who owed the infamous Buffalo platform trainers? I was never allowed, but very much envied pretty much every other girl in my school who WAS allowed; they were a big trend round these parts.

When Casual Traditionalism Meets Formal Urbanity

Formal, urban outfits usually consist, for men, of smart suits, shiny shoes and a tie. Ladies don a smart trouser suit, high buttoned blouse and kitten heels, right? Well this might be our conventional view of formal, urban fashion but, in the modern world, there is increasing room for fusing formal work clothes with classic casual
looks.

A match made in heaven

The modern tendency to merge formal working urban attire with classic casual styles can be pinned on two major factors – one of which being that there is a now a tendency for companies across the world to adopt a more casual office environment. This new trend, known as ‘business-casual,’ is being embraced across the country. As a result, the style of clothing people wear to work has evolved from the classic suit and tie, to a much more informal look which combines formal work wear with casual leisurewear styles.

Taking classic business styles – such as pencil skirts, buttoned blazers and kitten heels – and dressing them down with something fresh, modern and casual is now a fun and appropriate look for the office. And the Spring/Summer 2012 season is all about combining these classically diverging styles. Previously unheard of
amalgamations – such as wearing a leather skirt with a cotton T-shirt – are being transported from the catwalk straight into the office.

The influence

But the current trend of combining the casual with the formal can’t be placed solely at the hands of evolving business culture. Fashion brands can also be seen as having a major influence in this innovative style, and none more so than G Star Raw.

The Very.co.uk G Star Raw collection combines classic casual styles and fabrics, such as denim and sneakers, with formal city styling for both men and women. In fusing the ultimate ‘work-to-play’ look, G Star Raw is pioneering the world of fashion, and is enjoying phenomenal popularity and success.

The G Star Raw range includes everything from original jeans to staple T-shirts in classic colours and cuts, as well as sports-inspired shapes and fits. This trend to formalise traditionally casual garments – such as jeans, T-shirts and even sportswear – by giving them tailored, fitted cuts and business-like buttons, is playing a central role in the ‘business-casual’ fashion styles that are currently dominating both office and high street culture.

Pink and Sparkly

Oh yes, back to the knitwear…and even that didn’t quite keep the chill off but I refuse to wear a coat in the supposed English summertime! Only 8 weeks until I jet off *dreams*

Wearing: TK Maxx jumper, Zara trousers, Toms.

Yesterday was lovely, I got to see two of my bestest girls and indulge in some retail therapy! I finally found some shorts that aren’t hot pants in the teens section of New Look of all places (so long Cabot store stocking the tall range) and some other decent length ones in Primark. Under the influence of Becca I also picked up a super pretty dress in Republic and some cheap and cheerful holiday clothes during my second foray in to Primark (as well as an ombre cardigan I couldn’t resist)

Today looks set to be more of the same, plus watching the parents run around like headless chickens packing for their holiday! The fly in the early hours of the morning, and being the lovely daughter that I am I shall be getting up to see them off.

What’s your weekend consisted of so far? Enjoy a lazy Sunday if you can
