Stratford; The Olympic Heel from Yull

Summer 2012 is a chance to celebrate all things British. With this in mind Yull have created ‘Stratford’ inspired by the London 2012 Olympics. Whilst retaining the understated and classic elegance of Yull designs, the Stratford incorporates a fun and patriotic twist.

Ensuring you step out in style for cultural and sporting events this summer 2012, the ‘Stratford’ is bright and contains the colours of the Olympic rings. They brighten up any outfit or ‘British summer’ day! Ideal for the vast array of summer events, they have a heel height of 3.5 inches so you can enjoy them comfortably all day long.

Made from soft calf leather and priced at £110, the ’Stratford’ shoes mark an incredible occasion and are available to purchase at www.yull.co.uk in addition to various independent retailers across the UK.

Founder and designer, Sarah Watkinson-Yull launched the brand in March 2011 at the age of 21 having completed her studies at Phillip Green’s Fashion Retail Academy. With support from The Princes Trust and the British Footwear Association, Sarah is proud to have moved all production to Britain. She says ‘Yull is a British brand and I am delighted that with the help of the Prince’s Trust, Yull is now able to be made in Britain.’

I’ve long been a supporter of Yull shoes and own two pairs of the heels and my beloved Chelsea Boots, now I’m sharing this fantastic chance to own a pair of your own

Cake and Cat

As promised, here is one of the fruits of yesterday’s labours in the kitchen; Chocolate Banana Cake!

I would have got a prettier picture of it all sliced up, but I’m trying to preserve it’s shape and structure for when I take it in to work tomorrow (so taste verdict will hae to wait until then, too!

The recipe I used was from Baking Mad (they have been working with bloggers lately, but this is off my own back!)

3 Bananas Medium sized, ripe
175 grams Light Muscovado Sugar (Billington’s)
175 grams Self Raising Flour (Allinson Nature Friendly)
2 Free Range Eggs (Happy Eggs) Beaten
3 tbsp Sunflower Oil
55 ml Milk
110 grams Milk Chocolate Chips, Or chopped chocolate ..I used plain chocolate in my bake as it’s what was on hand!
75 grams Walnuts Chopped (optional)

Grease a 20 x 10 cm loaf tin. Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 4/180°C/350°F.

In a mixing bowl mash the bananas with the sugar until smooth.

Stir in the flour, eggs, oil and milk, mixing well until everything is thoroughly combined.

Gently fold in the chocolate and walnuts

Pour into the tin and cook for 50-60 minutes until cooked through (Mine took 45 and I needed to cover it in foil after 20 to stop the top burning)

Remove from the oven and cool in the tin for 5 minutes. Then turn out of the tin and leave to cool on a wire rack. Serve in slices.

And that’s it! Super quick and simple, and hopefully a hit! Have you made this cake before? Perhaps we need ot set up a blogger pen pal type recipe swap…any takers?

Just sharing a few more photos of Mae, who is a little confused at the sudden lack of people in the house…she mainly seems content with me though, content enough to chuck catnip toys at my head at 4am and getting herself in to the neighbours garden then not being able to get back over the fence…embarrassing to be knocking on their door at 11pm with Mae crying the other side of the gate!

Getting Back Behind the Wheel

My driving history is somewhat of a standing joke amongst family and friends; I was the first out of my school friends (I believe) to start taking lessons, on the day of my 17th Birthday. 8 years on I am yet to be driving, whilst the later starters have been on the road for quite some time!
Five failed tests, 18 months in to my driving career I decided it might be best to take a bit of a break; this has actually been a far longer break than I anticipated (the driving instructors and examiners are rejoicing) but finally I feel like I’m at a point where I both want, and need to drive.

So why aren’t I? The simple answer is money. The cost of lessons, the cost of a car…the trial of having to compare car insurance (when I am clueless) and please don’t get me started on the cost of petrol, almost having a fit when I see friends and family fill their tanks!

And so I am torn…on one hand I am totally content to use the legs I was born with and scrounge lifts when needed,
but on the other hand I am fed up of always having to rely on others, needing colleagues to get me to work, not being able to go anywhere further than my town when I want to get out and if I ever want to leave home then I really do need wheels.

What would you do? Drivers, do you have any tips for me? Non-drivers, what is your stance on this?

To drive or not to drive…that is the question, and I NEED an answer.

This Old Thing

An outfit consisting of old favourites; Dress (last year’s) and Denim Shirt (at least 3 years old) from New Look, Tights from Accessorize. Shoes Buffalo c/o Sarenza.

Even Mae is fed up of this stupid rain, she is refusing to go out, preferring instead to run laps of the house and generally cause havoc. Rain is such a mood killer, I wish my parents had packed me in their case and took me to Menorca with them!

Off to work for the morning, then this afternoon I’m planning a cooking/baking session, it has been far too long and I have free reign of the kitchen for another six days…
