In The Sack

As you (UK’ers at least) probably know, this Friday, 18th March is Comic Relief!

Cafe Direct are aiming to raise tens of thousands of pounds for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day 2011 by inviting people to get involved in the various sack racing events, complete with village fête-style stalls and entertainment they’ll be hosting across the UK. Also they’ll be providing free ‘jump in the sack’ kits so the public can get together with friends, family and neighbours to host their own fun-fuelled sack races.

As well as jumping in the sack, individuals can donate to Comic Relief by purchasing their limited edition pack of Cafédirect tea and roast & ground coffee, 10p from every sale will go to Comic Relief. Also they can join in the conversation on Twitter #jumpinthesack and Facebook.

I was invited a few weeks ago to join in the Bristol sack race event, but sadly couldn’t attend. However, I was rewarded with my very own jump in the sack kit. If I were more organised I would have arranged an event of my own, but I’m not, and it’s proved too short notice to get anything together at work,
however, I do intend to raise funds somehow, perhaps I’ll turn one of the sacks in to a dress and wear that to work on Friday! Does anyone have any ideas? I like the idea of a mini bake sale, but that entirely depends on if I get time to bake!

If you are planning an event and would like a kit you can e-mail campaigns@cafedirect.co.uk with your details including your address and remember to say what you’re planning on using the kits for…

(The kits are free and contain 5 sacks, posters, tea and a guide to organising the perfect event!)

So,
what are you planning for Comic Relief? Have you been along to one of the Sack Race events? Here’s a link to one of the races so you can witness the fun for yourselves! *click*

Maximum Confidence

So by now we all know what clothes make me feel most insecure…but what about the reverse? What makes me feel confident?

The answer is simple; Maxi Dresses/Skirts.

I’m not sure what it is about them, perhaps something to do with the long length and “swish” when you walk,
but I’ve noticed I always feel most confident when my legs are covered down to my ankles at least.

Being tall, I’m lucky as I don’t drown in the dresses (although look to Nicole Richie to prove shorter girls can rock them too). I love my shorter dresses but they often end up being *too* short or not sitting where they should. I never have that problem with a maxi and that is also part of it’s charm.

This particular dress was sent to me before Christmas by the lovely folk at Matalan and I’ve been saving it for a sunny day.

Sunday

Laziest post ever today, sharing some random photos etc from my Week!

001

Balloon from Aussie, LOVE! Balloons + me = instant happy.

003

I caved in and bought the cupcake partner to my cookie book! I can’t wait to get experimenting (all I need now is some time!)

004

TEA. Holland and Barrett are running a promotion on selected items at the moment where you buy one and get one for a penny. Two boxes of my favourite tea for £1.20…yeah.
I would have bought stacks more if I hadn’t have had my hands full and a bus to catch.

005

Someone found this week exceptionally hard.

So hard, right Flash?

No week would be complete without an utterly random purchase (and yes, I do often have two drinks on the go at once…and neither usually get finished!)

Sunday outfit…though I think I’ll be changing soon, those trousers are not as comfortable as I remember…damn you ever expanding waist.

What does your weekend look like?

Have you made any utterly random purchases lately?

P.S. BIG HELLO to the lovely girl who stopped to say hi in H&M, I was so shocked that I forgot to ask your name…but thank you for making my day even better!

Thought for the Weekend…Savings.

Money- how do you save yours?

With so many gorgeous things to buy in the shops right now, saving money is probably the last thing on your mind (most of the time I know this is true for me) but for those of you who are good and save, how do you do it?

Personally, I’ve tried several methods…

A money box in my room (gets raided for spare change frequently)

Saving coppers and changing them at the bank when I have a substantial amount (works, but it is SLOW)

Savings accounts (which frequently get raided because I just have to have something)

A separate purse where I put cash on pay day, saving for my next trip in to town…(works well, as I do tend to forget it’s there until next pay day)

I remember opening my first bank account as a child, back in the day where you could open an account with 50p and were sent merrily on your way with a plastic case full of colouring pens and other related paraphernalia. And the excitement, as a prospective student of the freebies on offer when you opened a student account; I never did become a uni student and those offers seem to have long since vanished!

If you do have a savings account, what kind have you found to be the best? Really, mine is just a standard bank account complete with debit card. I take out the cash I need for the month on payday and try not to spend on my card unless I really want something, but recently I’ve gone shopping mad and the plastic is coming out a bit too often for my liking!

Also, are you a budgeter? I confess to OCD, especially around money and budgets and look in my desk drawer you’ll see page after page of budget related scribbling and a proper little book full of incomings via outgoings.

I guess this has been my secret to success. I don’t believe in spending what I don’t have and although it seems like I shop a lot, it is all within what I can afford and I go through phases where I don’t buy anything at all. I’m guilty of saying “I’m broke” or “I want it but can’t afford it”…because say it often enough and I start to believe it!

I’d love your feedback on your attitude to money, and how you save, if you do at all.

Or, in this economic climate do you see it pointless to save with so little return?

Aussie Angels love you!

Some of you know by now that I have recently become an Aussie Angel (Frizz Miracle tribe, YO!)

Yesterday I was greeted from work by a HUGE box containing a Helium Balloon (they know the way to my heart, I LOVE balloons) and a bottle of their amazingggggg conditioner

and now, they are spreading the love to YOU!
