#WearItRed

Or…Red for A (very good) Reason.

Today is Comic Relief, you may have gathered by previous posts that I am a supporter of the cause.
I never did get around to organising a sack race, nor making a sack in to a dress (I tried, hessian ITCHES) so this is my way of hopefully raising some funds.

The idea for #WearItRead came from the lovely Hazel (I will never tire of Noel Fielding in a dress, sorry)

I never thought red was *my* colour, so finding an outfit for this day was tough. In the end I went for touches of red…all out fire engine probably isn’t the most suitable for work!

Please hop along to the #WearItRed justgiving page and consider making a donation

Mine will be added later,
and I’m also hoping to raise some funds through work…those doctors had better dig deep!

What are YOU doing for Comic Relief?

I Made you a (Vegan) Cupcake

This weekend is going to be a good one, my brother and his girlfriend are coming to stay (first time meeting her) and Bro, Dad and I are going to see Interpol on Saturday night.
In preparation for their arrival, and to score “good sister” brownie points I decided I would bake something. Bro’s girlfriend is allergic to eggs so I had the perfect opportunity to break out “Vegan Cupcakes take Over the World” and have my first adventure in Vegan Baking.

The whole time I was mixing the above ingredients I wondered how on earth that odd assortment could taste palatable…let alone cupcake like! A quick (clean) finger dip surprised me…cake batter, with no raw egg to worry about….HELLO bowl licking duties.

Photobucket

It was a very runny batter and in hindsight I should have either made smaller cupcakes OR run out to get some muffin cases, because despite my hesitation these cakes ROSE

Photobucket

And ended up like this!
Never mind, lesson learnt and a quick trim (and trimming sampling) later and I had something more presentable.

Photobucket

The cakes were decorated with a vegan rich chocolate ganache (also from the book) which was SO easy to make and excellent for drizzling.

Photobucket

And overall, I don’t think I did such a bad job of making them look better, right?

Photobucket

Right.

Outfit today is bordering on indecent length wise, I might or might not add shorts when I pop out later 😉

And makeup was kept natural. I’ve just started using Witch’s primer which is doing wonders for my skin!

The end.

Dare to Dream

Ok, so working 9-5 might be a (not so slight) exaggeration on what I do, but good news on the work front for me…
My four month contract has been extended to at least a year and I’ve been offered 17 hours a week, instead of 12 starting from 4th April! This is the most I have been able to work for years, in a job I love and a year ago (just one year ago) things were so very different. Even 6 months ago I never dared hope things could be this.good.

Today I’ve gone for colour, lots of colour! I bought this ASOS dress just after Christmas I think and have so far worn it the grand total of once, to a work evening.
I debated for ages if it was work appropriate or even flattering. I put too much thought in to things. I like it so I’m wearing it. Fact.

For so many years I’ve told myself I didn’t deserve good things, or to be healthy, or happy. This last year alone has opened my eyes in so many ways and now…well, things aren’t perfect, but I’ve stopped striving for perfection. I want to live in, and enjoy the here and now; something I haven’t been able to do since before I first ‘got ill’ at 15.

You know what?
It’s the best feeling EVER.

It’s ok to dream. It might just come true.

you can thank me later

You can thank me later for this post, right now there is shopping/browsing/drooling/wishlisting to be done!

Always on a mission to find gorgeous jewellery I was delighted to find Stephen Einhorn

“Stephen Einhorn has always had a passion for design. In 1995 he sold his successful advertising model-making company to open a jewellery shop and workshop in Islington. He wanted to concentrate on his own designs using the many skills he had developed over the preceding years. He was one of the first designers to focus on men, having noticed a large gap in the market for men’s jewellery. Paul Smith commissioned Stephen’s very first men’s jewellery collection plus many subsequent collections including a women’s jewellery range sold as ‘Stephen Einhorn for Paul Smith’.”

It’s refreshing to see a website that also caters for jewellery loving men! It certainly makes getting ideas for gifts that bit easier (not that I have a man in my life, but I know enough people who do!) Here you’ll find the men’s jewellery range.
There are also amazing women’s pieces that have my heart all a flutter…allow me to introduce you to my favourites.

Please note, I do try to keep my wish lists affordable for my personal budget, but sometimes I find things that drive me to strictly dreaming!

My top three for men:

Dream vs. Reality

Here’s what I wish I was wearing to work today…

Both Love Label at Very

Here’s what I am actually wearing…it’s very much one of those outfits that looked better in my head. Front on it just looks shapeless (hence the posed photos!)

I’m sure a skinny black belt would fix this up a bit, but mine has gone walkies, which is always the way!

I’m feeling a bit down and out about how clothes are looking lately. Mid-season blues maybe? It’s no where near cold enough to warrant huge jumpers, but at the same time, I’d die of cold if I wore more summery stuff. Adding cardigans to floaty things just feels…wrong.

Oh hurry up warmer weather…I’m waiting.
